I not completely sure what the designation means for tourneys though I'm sure documentation exists, I think I have a basic grasp of the system.

What I have trouble with is rostered vs. non-rostered teams in a sanctioned tournament. Why would you mix them or why would you seed non-rostered teams ahead of rostered teams? Looking at the CHC brackets, it seems like this is happening. I also don't really understand why teams like Renegade and Dire Wolf would be playing as non-rostered teams.

It sucks being in a position of trying to get enough games or strong games in, and having to play against non-rostered teams which I assume don't count in the rankings.

http://scores.usaultimate.org/scores/#open/tournament/13485

As I check back after typing this, it looks like teams are still in the process of being "rostered" so maybe those "non-rostered" teams can still turn in a valid roster.

Still Crazy After All These Years...

We're now accepting bids for the 25th Clambake, Oct. 5-6, which promises to be the biggest, and certainly Craziest Clambake ever. We'll host roughly 40 teams in Open, Women's, and Mixed divisions, and may even make a Saturday-only division for the old-timers who want to come to the party but not deal with so much Ultimate, especially on Sunday.

The party is like no other, featuring 2 major music rooms (Band in one, DJ in the other), the infamous "glow room", bonfire, teepee, 35+ kegs, full sit-down Clambake dinner, camping, breakfast - the works.

Bids are due by August 24th - for more info on what makes a good bid, check out http://portlandultimate.com/tourney/publicShow/75

but i'd rather know the reason for the ground tap.
what's the reason?
is it making the sport better?
how has it improved the sport?
the new thrower has retrieved the disc, walked it to where it should be put back into play and set a perfect pivot foot......so.....why does he have to lean way down into an unathletic position and tap the edge of the disc on the ground while his marker counts the stall?
who came up with that stupid idea?(i have a guess)

the only "support" for the ground tap........is that.....
-it's cool.
-it's elegant.
-it lets the d know when to start marking(psst, you're on D, ya better be playing D)
-it lets the o know when to start cutting(psst, let your own team determine how to start your cuts)
-if there aren't lines on the field, there would be chaos.
-there's a ground tap in rugby

these AREN'T the reason FOR the ground tap.
there ISN'T a reason for the ground tap.
.....so....why does an association FORCE a thrower to lean down and tap the disc on the ground?

there are several to plenty of the association's expert rule answerers and posters here every single day.....trying to be cute and smart.....but they don't seem to have an answer for the ground tap.

if you go to their own private chit chat room...you see them giving conflicting suggestions for the ground tap.....colin offers advice to tap the disc after setting a pivot, while setting a pivot foot OR before setting a pivot. how can that association's #1 rule guy not even know when you're supposed to ground tap????

here are rsd...another of that association's top 'observers' prefers to post about literary devices....

---so....there's no support....and no good reason for the ground tap.
it's a failed "experiment" that was dumb from the very start.

time to abolish the ground tap.
will any of that association's experts rise up and stand against that one particular ding dong who came up with the ground tap idea and shoot it down......

ATGT!!!!
no support.
no reason.

For all you PADA players (or even if you're not) come on out to Edgely field tonight at 6:30 for a free footwork and agility clinic.

I'll show you progressions of several drills that you can incorporate into your own training. Learn how to get your hips involved in lateral changes of direction. And learn how these concepts apply in cutting on the field.

If you're in the Philly area, I hope to see you there!

Anakin, 14, entering hs this fall........scored 6 goals in her most recent summer league game.
6 goals!
that's pretty sweet...in one game...to 15.

and did i mention.....she was selected in the second round of the draft by Callahan and Worlds U23 MVP Claire Chastain?

and...did i mention....that i went in the THIRD ROUND!!!
my 14 year old...went a round ahead of me in the summer league draft.....

did i mention....her team...blublublublublu.....has only lost once this season....and are easily the odds on favorite to win the championship.....

If blu blu blu blu wins the season...it'll be here third league championship.

i'm cheering for every other team.

Hey there, hungry-to-play Bay Area Men's Club Athletes,

We rarely post tryout evites but if you are a friendly person that has a strong desire and ability to compete against many of the best Ultimate players and teams in the country there is still an opportunity for you to try out for Journeymen 2013--the longest-standing club team in our section.

Journeymen is about giving those with the desire and ability to test their Ultimate mettle against tne best the opportunity to do so, we believe in maximum PT and Ultimate self expression. Our roster is consistently the most diverse at any given tournament, with a core of players ranging in age from 18 to 40plus. In addition to multiple youth age players and wiley veterans, the cadre of Past, Present and Future Journeymen includes multiple national champions, Callahan award winners, and MLUltimate players.

We are a spirited, fun team to play with. Our character reflects a commitment to synergy and innovative ideas on O and D--and creative input is encouraged. And as our 9-year history as Journeymen has shown, when these elements come together, we are capable of pulling some major upsets. We play 4-6 tourneys a year, including Sections and Regions, and have been 4 times ranked among the top ten in the NW Region.

Ability and desire are more important than age or gender on our team, if you are a highschool player a lady or wiley veteran, if you want it and think you have the wherewithal compete you are welcome to tryout.

Joureneymen has been the home to over 600 like minded players since the teams inception as BushMasters in 1998. If you see this post and have played with or against the J-Men over the years please respond to this post with any type of excerpt about your experience.

Kind Regards

Someone just posted in an unrelated thread, the quote...."i miss Toad".

well...i saw him two days ago by surprise.....
The whole family loaded up and brought our oldest girl to sTumbling(she just recently perfected the no hand arial)....Amy G stayed to watch, like the Dance Mom ladies upstairs thru the window, while me and the two youngest girls went for a walk in the neighborhood behind.

tons of sweet yards, great lawns and lots of flowers....a couple scary dogs.......
but....surprise surprise, there's Toad hobbling down his driveway with one crutch.

During the Spring League Tournament, we had the Takraw set out and were tearing it up....bicycle spikes, back blocks, lots of great serving....well......Toad tore his achilles tendon that day.

He's walking down the driveway of the new sweet house he built and moved into recently.
We get a tour of the new house....and the sweet backyard which will be the new Takraw court once Toad's back in action.

Joe Bonk was visiting also....and he had a huge Mercedes van filled with shirts and trinkets and necklaces and more and more.....
He sat the girls down in there and loaded them up with anklets and bracelets and BFF necklaces...the works!
and...gave me a bracelet for our oldest.

Great afternoon.
Actually....we're now considering buying the house he's in now.....
he plans to sell it and build another house on the lot next door.

word.
Good times.

I have been long waiting for Five to make some pants to play in, and the Duality pants look somewhat the part. The jacket also looks pretty sweet. I don't see any reviews though (and sadly they are missing their amusing descriptions talking about all of the awesome bonuses they sneak into their gear), so I was wondering if anyone else had been happy with these?

Currently they look like a boring set of Jacket and Pants that happen to be patriotic. What makes them worth buying from Five instead of my neighborhood Dick's (aside from the USAUltimate reference, of course)? Any pockets for iPods? Made with Electro fabric?

Congratulations to the women's, mixed, and open champions at this year's Motown Throwdown -- Dish, Santa Maria, and Michigan's new competitive Open team, High Five.

Despite some challenges with rain and lightning, we were able to complete the full game schedule with minor modifications. The fields and field lining held up nicely as well. Thanks to all the teams that attended and to VC for providing some awesome tournament merchandise.

We're already looking forward to next year's event and making notes on how to continue to improve the Motown Throwdown. Last weekend of July in Sylvania, Ohio.
