Oshadega 10.2, September 28-29, is a tournament designed to promote the best of ultimate. We are limiting the roster sizes to 10 players per team. We encourage teams to mix rookies and veterans together.

The format should be conducive to lots of teaching and fun. With only 10 players on a team, you'll get plenty of action. With fast games played to 10...mirror halfs and 55 minute hard caps...you'll play lots against lots of different teams.

The cost is cheap...$10 per person. Everyone is encouraged to put a team together. Bring your high school squad to play some higher competition. Bring your club friends that you haven't gotten enough of yet. Help grow a womens division by adding your womens teams...you only need to find 8 or 9 friends to come play.

This is a tournament for the players. We can even make it a Spirit State Championship for Ohio if you like. Send bids to oshadega at gmail dot com.

Happy extended summer ultimate frisbee tournament directors,

Who needs/wants free beer?

My name is Adam "Twirly" Levy and I am the 11-time Event Director of Ultimate Chicago Sandblast. Thank you to so many members of the national ultimate frisbee community that have participated in our annual co-ed beach weekend.

For those that have enjoyed Sandblast once, twice or all 11 times, I appreciate the feedback on the generous support from event sponsors with sport drinks, lunches and other snacks at the beach as well as our annual party with plenty of FREE BEER.

We had an amazing summer with a new partner and there is an opportunity to plug that partner right into your 2014 event. Did you pay for beer in 2013? Did you charge your players separate in 2013? I am proud of being able to support Lei Out and Chicago Heavyweights in past years and want to try and help you.

Thanks for sending me a note at Adam AT UPChicago DOT com and let's have a quick discussion about the potential fit. As I have enjoyed with Sandblast, it's a great way to maintain costs for your participants while increasing the experience to the stars!

Best ultimate wishes, Adam/Twirly

This fall there will be an alternative fall series taking place all across the country. There will be approximately 40 State Championship tournaments taking place in September and October, with the winning team from each state being invited to attend the North American Spirit Championships in Sarasota, FL on Nov. 1-3. In addition the team that wins the Spirit Prize at each tournament will be invited to attend the Co-ed Celebration, held in conjunction with the Spirit Championships.

USAU membership is not required to participate, nor is there other type of additional membership fee required, players just have to pay normal tournament expenses. The website is www.freefallseries.com.

State Coordinators are still needed for Massachusetts, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Michigan and Wisconsin.

The Ultimate Athlete Project is opening this week.

http://www.theultimateathleteproject.com

This opening is especially for college players and international players who's seasons begin earlier than the club season in the US.

I got a question this week about how to fit in training from The Ultimate Athlete Project from a player with college practices three times a week.

I answered that question, along with a list of the other FAQs here if you're curious.

http://ultyresults.com/questions-about-the-ultimate-athlete- project/

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!

We're opening tomorrow! Hope to see some of you in the website then. Smile

I was disappointed in the sport of ultimate this weekend to see the rotten apples overtake the openness and spirit usually shown by the ultimate community.

I took it upon myself along with my Ohio University teammates to continue in the tradition of throwing a good party for those in the East Plains Section this weekend. With the absence of the always appreciated "Meyersville" from the Madcow squad, I wanted to give the ultimate community a fun weekend in Versailles and re-introduce myself to the Ohio Ultimate scene (as I am just moving back from Los Angeles).

My teammates and I bought a keg, at least ten handles of community liquor, dozens of cases, set up my Christmas lights, Ohio U flag, mini-Christmas tree, inflatable swimming pool, and amplifier to throw an extremely fun dance party for all. I was not naive to think that something were to go wrong with this atmosphere, but I was hoping that the spirit of ultimate and human decency would override the drunken shenangigans that could occur. I, unfortunately was wrong.

On Friday night, with a medium sized group, our swimming pool not only had beer poured into it, but was filled with urine, poop, and vomit. The morning cleanup was not a pretty sight. We did what we could, deflated it, threw it away, and proceeded to throw a followup on Saturday night. On Saturday, I had my Christmas lights spool wripped in half and my OU Flag stolen off of one of our car windows.

I don't mean to sound whiny, or be too much of a moralist, or pretend that I've never been around dumb things when alcohol is involved, but I hold ultimate to a different standard and was hoping better of my state, my sport, and my friends. Ohio U may have it's rivalries with many other teams in the section, but we also have players/alumni on Lake Effect, Madcow, Enigma, Santa Maria, Steamboat, High Five, BroCats, etc and I feel that we have maintained a competitive, yet respectful rivalry with all Ohio and Michigan teams at this tournament. I was very disappointed that this occurred, especially as it was my first chance to see so many old friends and teammates after my Ohio hiatus, and I hope that this doesn't happen again. I'm not sure if my OU teammates are expecting to host "Ohioville" again next year, but I am not expecting to extend myself and my personal possessions in the same way that I did this year.

If you have any information about the people accountable for the destruction of my personal or my teammates property, please message me, or get in touch with one of my teammates.

Thank you.

With recent USAU restructuring of their strength bid system, regions with fewer than 17 teams are now limited to an 8 team regionals. While this typically poses little issue to open or mixed, which are already well-developed divsions and regions can easily amass 20+ teams, this poses a serious problem for women's ultimate, which already struggles with recruiting new players and retaining them. Developing a division requires promotion not restriction. But for women's, where regions rarely if ever have the requisite 17 teams, this new system only restricts. More often than not, a region may find themselves with only 10 teams (and therefore be restricted to a 8 team Regionals), leaving young developing teams looking in from the outside.

Case and point, Philadelphia's Proceed with Caution (PWC), a second year developing team will be unable to compete in Regionals, after being knocked out of Regionals contention this weekend by a team that hadn't played a tournament all summer, and therefore was not ranked to earn a strength bid for the mid-Atlantic section. This other team was made up of master's players, all of whom have been to club and/or master's nationals and easily could have earned said strength bid. Even more disappointing is the fact that the other section has 4 bids for 5 teams, 4 of whom PWC has beaten, posting a 6-2 record against them. The two losses came in back-to-back games against VA Rebellion when they only had 10 players, but had beaten them 3 weeks earlier. PWC fully deserves to go to Regionals. If USA Ultimate really wants to foster the growth of women's ultimate, why are they preventing a deserved team that just wants to keep developing from continuing their season?

I do not have to play on PWC to see how unjust the policy is. This new system completely goes against promoting women's ultimate and equality. Why would you ever choose to limit women's to only 8 teams, rather than the 16 that exists for mixed and open? Women's tournaments already constantly struggle to even have enough teams show up. As someone previously pointed out, this year, there was a steep decline in the number of women's team participating in Club Sectionals. A team wants to play and has clearly proven themselves, yet you want to limit them and say no? How can you possibly claim to promote women's ultimate when you are turning down teams that clearly deserve it?

The Ultimate Athlete Project will be opening to new members in about a week or so. I don't know the exact date so sign up on the wait list so you're sure not to miss it.

http://theultimateathleteproject.com/

As usual, It'll be open for just a few days.

This is the ideal opening for college players, European players, and players from the UK.

You'll have plenty of time to devote to building strength and power in the off season before focusing on conditioning and getting in playing shape.

Anyone care to take a stab at how it will play out?
Seems that a few bids could be up from grabs. NW SE SW and NC are all on the edge.

Is the fix in?
-no doubt

We have been asked to help organize the GrandMasters division of a big tournament that Southwest Ultimate is organizing in Sarasota on Nov. 1-3. The rest of the tournament will comprise of Division II Nationals for Mixed and Women's, as well as the North American Spirit Championships.

This could be a damn good time. It could be a two or three day event. Whatever folks want. Hoping there is interest in making this a big GM event.
