Mesteño, a club mixed team mostly out of Denver, will be hosting open tryouts at O'Kane Park in Lakewood (corner of 2nd and Teller) on Tuesday, May 12th and Tuesday, May 19th at 6:30 PM. Show up a bit early to get yourself ready, get some throws in, etc., as we'll start warmups right at 6:30. You don't need to do anything beforehand, but you're welcome to check out our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/mestenoultimate) or e-mail our captains (scottsalvati@gmail.com or schieber.ellen@gmail.com) with any questions.

We've had a great turnout at the pickup games we've hosted, and we're expecting some good competition for roster spots. If you're looking to play competitive ultimate in Colorado this year I'd encourage you to check us out. Hope to see lots of people there!

I'm curious what should have been the result of this play.

I was on defense. The opposing team threw the disc to a receiver who I was not guarding. The disc was high and floaty so I ran to D it. The intended receiver was running towards me to catch the disc. I jumped up to block the disc. The receiver says he stopped running to avoid being hit by me. I didn't see him until I was already in the air and tried to avoid hurting him as I landed on him. Also, a teammate of mine was right next to us, and I believe he would have D'd the disc if I hadn't been there. The intended receiver called foul, stating that he had to stop running to avoid being hit by me. I argued that even if I hadn't been there my teammate would have blocked the disc. I contested the foul call and we sent the disc back to the thrower, at stall count 3, which, presumably was one greater than the last number uttered. I didn't hear the last count but I told the marker and thrower that on a contested foul the count should be +1 or 6 if over 5.

I don't doubt that I fouled the receiver. I just don't think he would have caught it anyway. In retrospect, I should have been more aware of my surroundings and not so focused on the disc. The guy is a friend, and regardless it is never my intention to hurt another player.

It seems like scorereport.net isn't being used by as many teams nationally as last year. I was wondering if there are any other national scorekeeping systems out there I don't know about? It sure is nice to have one repository and and RRI calculation for fair rankings.

Still frustrated that USAU did away with their old system. But also frustrated with scorereport.net's no-frills approach and frequent down-times (while appreciative at the same time).

Hey New England ultimate!

Our mixed team, HAOS (pronounced: HOUSE or HAY-OSS), is recruiting for the 2015 season. We play both the USAU Circuit and 5/2 DivI/II for the BUDA summer season (5/2 I+II are essentially one division), placing second last year for our first ever podium at the tournament since our inception in 2011!

We began expanding into the club scene in 2013. 2014 was our first full season, which saw us miss Regionals by just two places. Last September we only brought 14 players to sectionals, and with a full roster this upcoming season we expect to be extremely competitive for one of those spots.

That said, we are not your average club team. We put a large emphasis on a fun and family atmosphere. We camp together at tournaments, play with each other 2-3 times a week, and party together on the off-weekends. There are a number of couples and siblings, and most us either went to high school or college together. It is a very inclusive, close knit group and we view superior athleticism and chemistry as our way to counterbalance the larger pools that club teams who run tryouts pull from.

Currently we are accepting applications from anyone who sees themselves as athletically competent to compete at a Regionals level in the mixed division. We do not believe in a true try out system, because our team is as much a social organization as it is a sporting team. We want you to be a part of our family, not just a frisbee player on our frisbee team.

Our priorities in recruitment are male and female handlers, but anyone looking for a team is welcome to apply. We will likely start holding open pick-up soon in the Watertown, MA area, where you can come and check us out if you like.

Our only requirements are:
1. The athleticism to compete at an extremely high level.
2. A fun-loving attitude and a desire for a family atmosphere.
3. To buy into our system and come in with an expectation that this is different than most frisbee teams.

Throwing skill/overall experience is not as important to us, as our offensive system minimizes any deficiencies you might have, and part of the preseason will be dedicated to improving skills. Do not be intimidated to apply if you feel you don't have as much experience; enthusiasm is much more important.

To apply, send an email to zdarbeloff at gmail.com with your name, experience, and what you think you'd bring to the HAOS family. Also accepted in the application are possible HAOS puns for our 2015 BUDA name, your spirit animals, favorite drinks, whether or not you enjoy slapping, in-game celebration ideas, party themes, and anything else you feel is important to the sport of Ultimate.

Hope to see you out there!

I moved to Vegas rather recently and unfortunately for me both of the local club teams were already full of guys for their rosters at Trouble in Vegas. I'm looking to pickup on any mixed or open team (alumni/reunion whatever). Willing to pay my fees and whatnot.

There aren't a ton of opportunities to play high level ultimate out here and I'm really looking forward to playing if possible. I'm primarily a defensive cutter (and a lefty!), hit me up if you need someone!

Oy, R.S.D! TiV 2015 is coming to sunny, beautiful, ragey Las Vegas, NV. I captain one of the local club teams here in town. We could use another couple of ladies. If you want to come have an amazing time in Vegas, party with a fun, competitive team, and play some disc, let me know.

I can take care of your tourney fee and if you want to save a few bucks, I can find someone in the community who can put you up in some comfy digs for the weekend. There are also great deals for players on The Strip.

See you on the line!

As part of kicking off the 2015 Massachusetts High School ultimate season, the 2014 All-Star game videos were launched. To quote BUDA president Geoff Doerre, "Watching these makes people feel warmer which we all need right now."

See why high school ultimate is a highlight-reel sport. :-)

Many thanks to Geoff, Rob Brazile Jr, Mat at Breakmark, Yvon Guy, Dana Matson, Burt Granofsky, Jonathan Levy, Major League Ultimate (MLU) and many others for making this annual event possible.

These videos were produced in hopes they'll be shown to prospective players, school PE coaches and administrators to make it easier to get ultimate programs more resources.

Cheers,

Hosted every spring on the campus of Georgia Southern University, Southerns is one of the largest college tournaments in the United States. Coming into its 14th year, the tournament has hosted teams from across the country. With the perfect combination of weather, manicured fields and competition, the event has become a staple on the calendar for many teams. The tournament strives to promote the spirit of ultimate and some of the finest southern hospitality you will ever come across. The amenities will include the usual tournament packet of bananas, bagels, oranges and game disc. Throughout the day, there will be a food and water stations set-up for all players to drop by. There will also be certified athletic trainers available with plenty of tape and ice in the case of injuries.

As always, there are plenty of great hotels in the area and we will also have our famous Tent City on the field site as well. Teams are welcome to camp out to avoid cost of hotels.

Spin Ultimate will be in attendance selling tournament gear and setting up a player lounge at tournament central for everyone to enjoy.

If you are interested in attending, please fill out this form: http://goo.gl/forms/MLRrL7yz8c

Tournament Fee: $400
