DIII Midwestern Invite is the sanctioned tournament. March 1-2nd. Only D-3 teams. Already have 8 teams signed up. $250 entry fee.
Dynasty Bowl will be the non-sanctioned tournament. Meant as a tune-up tourney in February 15-16. Any college or club teams are welcome. Already have 4 teams signed up with room for 12. $225 entry fee.
Both tournaments are hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, IN. Dynasty bowl has a back-up date in March (tentative... but either 15-16 or 22-23) in case of bad weather. Please contact xtcarpx@gmail.com with interest or questions.

A certain substance is now legal in Colorado, so come to one of the best parties of the year. Hat tournament on Saturday. On Sunday you have the option of playing more Ultimate, heading downtown for a massive party, or heading up into the mountains for closing day at one of our ski resorts, which is similar to tailgating at the big game. We'll have a variety of edibles at the tournament, plus members only pricing at one of our "bud clubs". Floor space will be available for out of towners, so just get your plane ticket and get ready for an epic weekend.

an eastern NC HS Basketball official died on the court this week, Tues night.
i had attended basketball referee camp with her this summer....and worked a couple of pre-season scrimmages with her this season....and sat in our local clinic classroom with her.....
Hope Murray was a great officiating partner, assertive and confident..... had a great smile that lit up the gym, worked at a home for people with disabilities...she had wonderful stories to share.
hug those you love...no one is promised another day, let along another breath on this earth.
count your blessings and live life to the fullest.

While I do not believe any of our current players have been to Wuff
Camp, Pitt's success is certainly a result of Wuff Camp and I
personally would recommend the camp to any college team. It is
probably the single greatest influence on my own playing and coaching
and we really appreciate what Mike G has done for our Program. While
we may not run the precise offense he taught us, he always made sure
we understood that everything we learned with him could be adapted.
This was the best part of camp: Do what I ask here, learn, go back,
and do your thing. If you look closely, Mike G is still a part of
what we do. I know a lot of teams don't have a Wuff Camp experience
or don't see how Mike has contributed to their current program, but we
do. Thanks Mike. Keep doing your thing.

We are super fired up to announce, after a long time developing, the UltiCoach iPhone app.
This app contains our entire drills deck + built-it custom practice plans.
A summary of what you'll get:
- Multiple categories of drills for all aspects of the game
- Offense, Throwing, Catching, Cutting, Strategy, Defense, Scrimmages Drills that work on individual skills and team concepts
- Drills for 2 people all the way to 20 people
- Tired of running the same old drills at practice? 24 built-in custom practice plans for your team.
- Skill levels include: Amateur, Club, Pairs, Full-Day Clinics
- Practices tailored for: Offense, Defense, Throwing, Fitness, Cutting, Pre-game warmups, Scrimmages.
A lifetime of passion for Ultimate and 2 years hard work went into this app. We are really happy to be able to finally be able to share it with everyone.
We've started it at a special price of 2.99, but that pricing will probably change later.
We would really love to hear what everyone thinks, comments, suggestions, and how you use it. Everything we learn will help us as we build future updates.
It's available for IOS now, Android and Windows coming a little later.
Hope you like it and looking forward to hearing feedback. Oh, and we appreciate any ratings and reviews in the app store. They will help us to spread the word.
Thanks!

Throughout my 6-year ultimate career I have never seen or heard anyone teach certain key specifics about marking, so I'll address them right now. It would seem that the players that have developed good marks did so through trial and error.
The worst mistake that I often see in players is to have a upright stance. An upright stance causes limited lateral mobility due to such a high center of gravity. Here's an example:
http://www.ultiphotos.com/usau/sectionals/2013/capital/mens/ sat/r1/h73de758b#h73de758b
To fix this, decrease the angle at your waist, like this:
http://www.ultiphotos.com/usau/champs/2013/mens/a/rv/ts/h2fb 31bd5#h2fb31bd5
Not only do you become more mobile with a lower center of gravity, but when you bend forward, a greater distance is created from the most forward and the most rear parts of your body. This results in the thrower you're marking having to throw past a further distance before the disc is past the most rear part of the your body. That kind of mark gives you more of a chance to get a block after the initial release of the disc, or even cause the thrower to holster the throw. You can contrast this with an upright marking stance, where it doesn't take much to get the disc past the entirety of the marker's body.
Another even more common problem I see is markers having their arms too high and outstretched, as shown in this example:
http://www.ultiphotos.com/usau/champs/2013/mens/c/dw/is/h164 ccd08#h164ccd08
I love it when I'm marked like this. The high outstretched arms create a nice large gap between the arms and the legs, which is so attractive to throw into. Good breaks are usually thrown through this area, as opposed to being thrown laterally past the hand/arm. This susceptibility can be minimized by lowering the arms and lessening the angle between your forearm and upper arm, almost exactly like this:
http://www.ultiphotos.com/usau/champs/2013/mens/a/rv/ts/h2fb 31bd5#h2fb31bd5
I've heard some say to put your hand/arm in the way of the shown throw, but I've come to realize that the throw doesn't come off straight forward from that position. It almost always comes off lower than the shown throw (with the exception of high releases). To stop this, I like to keep my hand/arm half a foot below the shown throw so when the throw actually comes, my hand/arm is right down there to meet it when it inevitably comes down.

We are excited to announce New England Open 2014 will be held on the weekend of March 29 and 30, 2014 again at the Myopia Polo fields in South Hamilton, MA.
This year we are restructuring the format to host both an elite Open and elite Women's division. We will be reassessing how many teams will be in each division once the bids start coming in so please pass this information on to any teams that might be interested.
Please visit NewEnglandOpen.org to submit a bid and e-mail us at NewEnglandOpen@gmail.com with any questions.
We will have a lot more information coming out soon but a lot of people have been asking about the date for next year so we wanted to open up the bid window as soon as possible.

Woodside Invite Developmental is back for its 3rd year, and we are again looking to put together one of the best all developmental tournaments of the year. Last year 18 developmental teams battled it out with Ohio State B taking the title.
The tournament will be on March 1-2, 2014 and will be sanctioned. The date works perfectly for a lot of you northern teams trying to head to or return from High Tide for Spring Break.
The entry fee is $275 which gets you nice lined fields, food, a trainer on site, and a shot at over $1000 worth of prizes. The winning team gets a cash prize based on the number of teams entered, last year it was $450, they also will receive a $500 credit from Savage Ultimate the official tournament sponsor and swag supplier, and a free bid to defend the title.

The Ultimate Gift is a nationwide tournament series to benefit Toys For Tots. Throughout the month of December, organizations partner with SAVAGE and Ultimate Central to bring ultimate communities together for a great cause. The goal is simple - play ultimate so a child can play with a toy on Christmas.
We are now looking for TDs to run tournaments across the country. SAVAGE will be fronting all costs and will compensate TDs for their time. Last year we had nearly 20 tournaments and hundreds of toys donated to Toys for Tots. This year's goal is to have 25 tournaments and 500 toys donated.
If you're league or community already has a toy drive hat tournament and would like to be part of the UltiGift tourney series, get in touch. We'll provide you with prizes and giveaways to help out!
