Wesleyan's mens ultimate team, Nietzsch Factor, is looking for a couch for the next year. However, more importantly, we are looking for a coach. Our team has a long and tender history and a strong culture. We are willing to forget all of that if you tell us to. We made it to D-III nationals in 2013 and aiming to repeat that in the future. With no coach last year and a disappointing season we are actively searching for someone to take the role of team Dad (or Mom) and yell at us to run back and forth and tell us where to throw frisbees.

If you live near central Connecticut and are interested in coaching a group of liberal artists, or know someone who might be, please email me.

Perks of the job include:
-Free travel to tournaments and to the American state of Georgia
-Possibly some other sort of stipend. Let's talk it out.
-Invitations to drink beer with us
-You will be kept up to date with cool underground music
-Very infrequent, almost nonexistent Nietzsche references
-Being able to blow a whistle at sweaty dudes
-Probably some other stuff

Contact me at if you are interested or have any contacts who might be.

The 2014 Philly Invite will be held July 19-20 at the Lehigh County Sports Fields in Allentown, PA. Twenty-four mixed teams will compete in a USAU sanctioned TCT Select Flight Event on lined grass fields in games that will count toward the regular season.

A $400 tournament fee (modest by today's standards) will get you fruit and pretzels, water coolers at each field and refilled throughout the day, and access to a certified athletic trainer. As there are close to a dozen hotels within a mile of the fields, we will not have a tournament hotel and teams can have their pick (though we can certainly assist you in this regard). Saturday evening provides a good opportunity for teams to relax at Dorney Park and Wild Water Kingdom, just 5 minutes from the fields.

Conveniently located an hour from both Philadelphia and New York, the Philly Invite has been a premiere event on the mixed club circuit for years, consistently featuring top national contenders. As a TCT Select Flight Event, it looks to continue to be a competitive event in 2014. We've already received interest from strong Mid-Atlantic teams such as Ant Madness and Jughandle, as well as from out-of-region teams (even as far as Texas!).

Teams should send the following information via email to 'phillyinvite at gmail dot com' with bids by 6/25. The $400 tournament payment will be due 7/2 (payment information will be sent to accepted teams).

Team name and region/section
Team contact and phone number
Last season's final standings
Significant roster changes
Where does your team hope to finish this year?

-TCT Select Flight Event (counts for regular season)
-$400 tournament fee
-Lined high-quality grass fields
-At least one crew of observers (hopefully two)
-Fruit and pretzels provided at HQ
-Iced water coolers at each field, refilled throughout the day
-Athletic trainer both days
-12+ hotels within 1 mile of fields
-About 1 hour from Philadelphia and NYC

Hi Guys!

DiscNY is looking for a handful of volunteers that would be interested in teaching teachers how to teach ultimate to middle school kids. Woah, that sounds like a lot of teaching!

But hold on. Really it's only a few hours one evening (Tuesday, June 24th) and then a few hours one weekday in the fall. Sweet deal! Tell me more...

Playworks is a national non profit dedicated to healthy play. Playworks' coaches work full-time in their schools facilitating youth development through play during recess, "class game times," and after school. They work exclusively in schools that have a student population of at least 50% that qualifies for free and reduced lunch.

Thanks to supplies and support from USA Ultimate, over the last few years there have been trainings in Boston, Durham, Baltimore, Denver, and Oakland teaching the Playworks staff how to use Ultimate in their programs. Now the NY/NJ Playworks office wants this training this year! They have schools in Newark and also in Brooklyn.

But first we need to make trainers...

Time commitment:
1 Training of Trainers, 3 hours (evening, June 24th)
1 Training of Playworks staff, 3 hours (The NY/NJ office has requested this in Aug this year, hopefully this will be recurring annually)

Optional: Keep up with the Playworks program to help facilitate more opportunities for their youth to play.
Interested in becoming a trainer? Questions about the program? Email jsussman_aaatttt_discny_...._org Know someone who would be perfect? Then pass this along!

Again that's Tuesday evening, June 24th. Exact location and time of the training dependent on volunteer numbers.

We hope to hear from you!!

Hey there Player,

There is room on the Journeymen Cal-States roster this weekend for a couple of tryout players. We placed fourth in Sections last year and are looking to better that result in 2014. We have beaten teams ranked in the top 50 and our best showing at Regions so far is 4 wins. We are a fun team and are going to play 3 more tourneys after Cal-States.

Hey there, hungry-to-play Ultimate Bay Area Athletes,

2014 is Journeymen's 10th season and if you have a strong desire and ability to play Ultimate and compete against many of the best Ultimate players and teams in the country there is still an opportunity to try out for he longest-standing Men's club team in the Bay Area. Ability, desire and attitude are more important than age or gender on our team, if you are a high school player, lady or a start up and think you have the wherewithal compete you are welcome to tryout.

Journeymen is consistently the most eclectic team at any given tournament. The cadre of Past, Present and Future Journeymen include multiple National Champions, Callahan nominees and MLU/Audl team members. We are a spirited, fun team to play with and our character reflects a commitment to synergy and innovative thinking on and off the field. Creative input from all members is encouraged. And as our 10-year history as Journeymen has shown, when these elements merge, we are capable of consistent high level play. IE Journeymen has beaten Mens teams ranked in the top 50 or better 4 times plus we have had three wins at regions 3 times and one season we had 4 wins. We play 4-6 tourneys a year, including Sections and Regions.

Journeymen has been the home to a special breed of like minded players since the teams inception as Bushmasters in 1998.

Mesteño is a mixed team based in Denver but also boasting players from Golden, Boulder, Fort Collins, and various mountain towns in Colorado. We have been around for 5 years, and for the past 3 years we have placed higher at regionals than any other Colorado mixed team, including a trip to nationals in 2011 and near misses the past two years.

We will be having 2 open tryouts Tuesday June 3rd and Tuesday June 10th. After this we will be having an invite only tryout on Tuesday June 17th and an invite only tournament in Fort Collins on June 21st and 22nd. Tryouts will be held at O'Kane park in Lakewood (corner of W 1st Ave & Teller Street, and will start promptly at 6:30pm. We will do some intros while warming up and then do a couple drills and then scrimmage. We are hoping to do this with minimal downtime as we are anticipating a large number of players attending tryouts, so please come prepared and ready to play.

For real-time tryout information you can go to and subscribe to our Google group (you will need a Google account). You can also contact Mesteño's captains at the addresses below.

The Ultimate Athlete Project is getting ready to open in just a few weeks.

Sign up here to get on the wait list

I'll send you more info about the program and let you know when it's open. Likely there will be a three day window of opportunity so you won't want to miss it.

The Ultimate Athlete Project emphasizes a long term approach to training. Therefore this is NOT the time when club players in the US should sign up. This is a GREAT time to sign up if you play college or high school ultimate, are not playing in the club series, and want to return to your team in the fall stronger, faster, and with more endurance.

The bid deadline for the Furniture City Shootout has come and gone so here is the field for the tournament.

Chain Lightning (Atlanta, GA - elite national powerhouse, 2004 FCS finalist)
Ring of Fire (Raleigh, NC - Split squads, another national power, many FCS titles, only 1 loss ever at FCS)
Surly (Minnesota? 4x defending USAU masters national champs, worlds qualifier)
Boneyard (Raleigh, NC - USAU masters national finalist 3 of last 4 years, worlds qualifier)
Dire Wolf (PA - 2nd place in MA region, select flight)
John Doe (PA - 4th in MA region, select flight)
Queen City Thunder (Charlotte, NC - regional qualifier, attended many FCS's)
Floodwall (VA - Regional qualifier, scrappy young team)
RA (Raleigh, NC - Masters national qualifier)
Medicine Men (Baltimore, MD - regional qualifier, long established club team)
Southern Hospitality (Alabama - regional qualifier, young hungry squad)
Philly Open (Philly - new team rumored to be some Southpaw guys, should be pretty good)
WAFC Jr (DC - Youth team coached by national champ, preparing for youth nationals)
Supernova (Northern VA - new team with high expectations, MA region is crowded)
YAK (VA - yet another young team looking to move up)

With Ring going split squad, that makes 16 teams. Expect four pools of four. There will also be a crossover game the last round on Saturday. For Sunday we will likely do a 12 team main draw and a 4 team chumpionship. There will be consolation games up until the semis of the main draw to ensure everyone gets plenty of ultimate.

Sorry for the wait, but I am excited to announce Discos Calientes 2014!

We have finally nailed down the dates and they are August 23rd/24th.

We are planning on having divisions for Open, Womens, and Mixed again this year. But if we do not get enough interest for the Open/Womens divisions then we will unfortunately be forced to cancel those again. We will let everyone know by the 2nd week in July whether those division got enough interest.

The bid cost will still be $400 and will cover:
1) The beautiful Chico, CA fields we use every year.
2) Trainer(s) at the fields (we are planning on them having tape too).
3) 2 Full days of Ultimate (6 games guaranteed right now, but more likely will be 7 or 8 played). This will be clarified closer to the tournament.
4) As always an amazing party (most likely for 21+ again).

Things to note:
1) We are NOT going to allow people to play BOTH open/womens and mixed divisions.

2) We are trying to determine if Discos should be sanctioned, with you bid please include whether you would want the tournament to be sanctioned or not.

July 1st - Bid Deadline (you must get your email bids in by this date), around this time I will be contacting each team with whether we have accepted their bid and where to send the money and the like.
July 25th- Money Deadline/Initial No Drop Date (your money must be RECEIVED by this date, if you drop after this date you only get 50% of your bid back).
August 9th - No Drop Date (NO MONEY BACK if you drop after this date).

In your bid email please include:
1) Contact information: including name and contact email.
2) Team Name
3) Division you are playing in
4) Whether you want Discos to be sanctioned.

Send your bids to: discoscalientes at yahoo dot com

Thanks and looking forward to seeing you all in August!

Atlas Ultimate is a newly forming men's club team based out of Santa Clara, CA by several current and past captains from SCAB (Santa Clara University). The primary goal of this team is to provide current college athletes in the area a means to remain active during the college off-season, as well as providing an outlet for alumni and other former college ultimate players to maintain their disc skills once they have graduated and begun careers in the Bay Area.
Tryouts for the team will be this Saturday, May 10, 2014. If you are interested in trying out, or if you cannot make the tryout date and are still interested in playing with the team, please send an email to:

All are welcome to try out and develop their skills though no one is guaranteed a spot on the team. Contact us with questions, we look forward to hearing from you soon!

Hello Ultimate leadership & players,

Revolution is scheduled for July 19-20, returning again to the Polo Fields in San Francisco. We had a great tournament last year, and we're building on that momentum.

The tournament is Mixed, will be USAU sanctioned, and we are planning on having power pools. Bid cost is TBD, but should be in the $450 range, similar to last year.

If you have questions or want to indicate interest in participation, please email the TD at Tourney registration information will be posted soon!
