Hey All,

The Molokai Cops (Open Division) are looking for men interested in playing Chicago Heavyweights this weekend (Sept 11-12). We are a group of college/club players from the Milwaukee/Madison area and our bid was accepted last minute, which is why we are looking for people. You'll get lots of playing time and it will be a good warm up for those of you who have tryouts in the fall. If you are interested, e-mail me @ andrew.hui2@gmail.com

Thanks,

The Big East Conference Tournament Oct 23-24 in Pittsburgh Pa will be
a tribute to Zach Bzdyra, a former UConn Ultimate player who died this
past summer after having played for Connecticut 2008 thru the 2010
season.

We've got 7 teams committed to attending the Big East
Tournament....and UConn is working on some sort of tribute to their
fallen brother.....but for starters, the UOA is naming the event after
him.

Hey All,

Showdown, in partnership with Without Limits, will be running a free skills clinic this month. The clinic will take place after Women's Club Sectionals on Sept 25 in Dallas. It will go from 5:00-6:30. We will be teaching a wide range of skills from breaking the mark to hucking to cutting to playing downfield defense.

You can read more information here:
http://withoutlimitsultimate.wordpress.com/projects/showdown -skills-clinic/

The clinic is FREE but pre-registration will be required. We are happy to accept any donation (no matter how small) and we will also be selling a limited number of "Don't Mess With Texas" t-shirts. This is a great opportunity for the Dallas-area college teams, as well as for other Texas Section teams who may have players playing in the Club Series. You can even bring a carload of rookies to watch some high level women's ultimate and then participate in the clinic afterward! The clinic is open to female ultimate players of any skill level (in any division).

We're very excited about this opportunity and we will hope you will join us later this month. More information to come.

Please feel free to email me with any questions and pass the word along to your teammates and your friends on other teams!

Michelle, on behalf of Texas Showdown

other than the obvious "CHEEPNESS" reasons. and even the socalled
"voluteer" observers at nationals are paid to be there (maybe not
directly but players DO pay). so how does it matter whether or not
the money that funds that facilitation goes towards travel and housing
costs or is just pure profit for local observers?

personally i feel that observers might actually take a little more
pride in their job if they were getting paid.........and it would make
for built in accountability, no?

fyi.....as per current usau poll 19 voted to pay them and 12 voted to
keep them as volunteers. how does that work with only 26 voters (i
guess some people voted for both????)

so again, could someone please explain to me WHAT THE FUCKING
DIFFERENCE WOULD BE (other than the obvious stulff i noted that
SUPPORTS PAYIN THEM). and save all the ideology please.

OK Toad, you are right, we should be calling out the UPA. Here is
something rather disturbing I read this morning...

Quoted from the Beagle thread, a post by Whitney...

"I know we tried to get bagels and bananas donated because we were
trying to make money for our ultimate team so we worked on getting
everything free so having to pay observers would have messed that up."

I took a look at the sanctioned tournaments page on the usau webpage.
There were two tournaments I was able to find a little more
information on, Mixed Easterns and Mixed Labor day, both USAU
sanctioned tournaments (not calling these tournies out, just was able
to find info quickly about them). Easterns had an entry fee of $350
with 32 teams = $11,200. Labor day has 24 teams paying $400 =
$9,600. That is quite a chunk of change. I know field space is
rather expensive (although if someone has exact numbers that would be
very helpful). Then tournament ammenities such as food, water,
trainers, and the party would be the next largest expenses. Insurance
would probably have been included, but getting sanctioned by USAU
means that you can get your tournament USAU insured for $200. Other
than that I would think some administrative costs would be involved,
anything I am forgetting? Seems to me like paying observers fits very
well into the budget.

How much money are these tournaments making??? Are they raking in the
cash to pay for there seasons at the end of the tournament or are they
barely breaking even?

If USAU is non-profit, do we want the tournaments they are sanctioning
making a bunch of money? Shouldn't the budgets be sent to USAU or
even better published for everyone? If you are getting the benefits
of the insurance from USAU for a very cheap price (try independently
insuring your event, or don't have insurance and play that risk game),
then you shouldn't be able to profit from that tournament. If
anything the overage should go to USAU. No one has to sanction their
tournament, so if you want to make a profit you don't have to
sanction. The only real benefit to sanctioning is the insurance,
which is the money saver (other benefits according to the USAU
website: a desire to host an event which is affiliated and supported
by the national governing body, access to additional resources and
legitimacy.)

It sounds like people aren't sure they want to pay for observers, but
do you even know what you are paying for now?

alighning themselves with organizations using experimental rules.

i wonder if theyve even made one attempt to contact the UOA?????

another interesting thing i noticed was that in the jan 2010 board

went out of there way NOT to mention them........like some high school

ALSO

as far as PAYING OBSERVERS, when asked about usaus negitive attitude
concerning this modern process of compensation for services JOSH
SEAMEN RESPONDED......."as far as i remember, it wasnt that the board
didnt like the idea, it was that we thought there were better ways of
going about paying observers".....

We will be hosting our annual Memorial tournament to honor the late, great Thales Nazario. The tournament will be on Oct. 16-17th at our turf fields on Busch Campus, Piscataway, NJ. This tournament is a great opportunity to get your rookies on the field and experiencing the utter exhaustion and exhilaration of a weekend tourney. Plus, everything is more epic when you play under lights.

The tourney fee is $250. Checks can be made out to "Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey". We also take large wads of cash. If you are bringing split squads, the fee is discounted to $200 each.
Send all checks to:
Beta Iota Delta
95 Senior St.
New Brunswick, NJ 08901

Submit bids to Rutgers.ultimate@gmail.com no later than Sept. 11th. I don't need to know what you'd do with a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue or anything like that. Just tell me what team you are representing, a reliable contact's cell phone number, and that you want to compete in a sweet Fall Season tourney.

For those taking an extended trip think about island hopping to the Big Island for a low key Hat Draw the following weekend (Nov. 20-21).

Just wanted to let everyone know that UltiPhotos will provide the Official Tournament Photography for Chesapeake Open for the third year in a row. Chesapeake should once again have some of the best elite club Ultimate action to be found. Many of the teams participated in the most recent Nationals and Worlds Championships. I have enlisted Pete Guion as a second shooter so that one of us will be at each location throughout the weekend to provide comprehensive tournament coverage. Look for us in the sky blue UltiPhotos shirts.

Please like UltiPhotos on Facebook to get updates on the latest photo gallery postings from the tournament and to show your support.

I'll also be tweeting gallery updates if you're interested to #UltiPhotos.

The schedule is now up if you want to check out the matchups: http://www.wafc.org/chesapeakeopen/schedule

I look forward to seeing many of you there this weekend!

Best,

Kevin W. Leclaire

Floodwall doesn't exist any more. The closest thing left is the cut
players from VA Squires who are supposedly going to throw something
together for Sectionals.

The "RU Game? Rutgers Womens Ultimate Tournament" will take place on the weekend of October 23 and 24 at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. This is going to be a great opportunity to face off against teams in the fall, on beautiful turf fields, with peanut butter sandwiches included!
The tournament fee is $175 per team.
If your team is interested in playing, please send an email to Jegarber@eden.rutgers.edu with
- Team Name
- School
- Brief description of team

Rutgers looks forward to hearing from everyone!

Following the 2009 Spring Season, the Pennsbury players put together a
highlight reel basically recapping the season on and off the field.
For a long time it was on DVD only, but we put it up on the internet
and I think it really captures how high level youth ultimate can be,
and how much the team truly cared about the season. The competition
throughout the video is incredible, with lots of footage against arch
rival schools Amherst Regional High School and Columbia.

The first 15 minutes is footage from Pennsbury's home tournament Born
to Dive, there are pictures from Amherst Invitational, and the final
sequence is the video of the finals at Easterns. When I say highlight
reel, its pretty long.

a couple notes:

bad dancing
some corny music
1 bad collision (note:the amherst player was okay and played the
following weekend, and the picture inside is from an Amherst
photographer, so props to him for capturing it)
a few inside jokes
some thank you's

Enjoy, and send a bid to redskins IMS 2 at hotmail dot com if you want
to come to the VC Sponsored 1st Annual Fall Classic in Pittsburgh!!
