The San Francisco Dogfish are looking for players who are passionate about ultimate, and interested in showcasing their skills and spirit in front of an enthusiastic Bay Area audience. The team will hold two open tryouts in January to find players for their 2015 roster.

After a strong inaugural season as MLU Western Conference champs, the Dogfish struggled a bit in 2014, and are looking to come back stronger than ever next year.

Open tryouts for the 2015 season will be held on Sunday, January 11 and Sunday, January 25 from 2 to 6 pm at Berkeley High School.
Participants who register in advance pay only $20. Registration after December 31 is $30. Players are strongly encouraged to register early, and should bring cleats and a light and dark shirt to the tryouts.

Dogfish staff will be evaluating participants on objective as well as subjective criteria. Players who perform well will be invited to a second round of tryouts.

All players need to complete an MLU participation waiver and video and photography waiver. For more information and to register and sign the waivers go to http://mlultimate-sanfrancisco-dogfish.ticketleap.com/2015-t ryout/

Please send all bids and questions to xtcarpx@gmail.com. Tournament fee will be between $250-300, and will have all usual sanctioned tournament amenities. Bid deadline is February 1st. I have a new pair of Patagonia ultimate shorts and I have noticed that after one trip to the gym with a fairly low key work out consisting of a several mile jog, squats, dead lifts, lunges, etc... they smell like absolute BO. The smell washes out fine with normal detergent. Typically with my 5 shorts, VC shorts, and Nike shorts it takes at 2-3 trips to the gym to build up that kind of stench. I have tried the new patagonia shorts out several times with the same results. Has anyone else noticed this? God only knows what a full tournament would do to these shorts and the people around them.

For clarity, I wear Under Armor compression shorts underneath. The shorts are Patagonia 100% polyester and made in Vietnam, and brand new as of November 2014.

Hey there "In Town on Break Player",

If you are looking to play Ultimate while in town on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the "Woodwork Game" in Sunnyvale is super fun and well worth your time to attend. Participants are mainly College,Club and Mixed Men. Quality lady players that want a challenge are welcome also.

It's named the woodwork game because of the amazing variety of "Bomb Ass" players that will be there some that you will know and many of whom have played at Natty's.

If you would like an evite with directions to the game this Saturfday 11-29 at 10:29 am please respond to this post with your most convenient contact address.

UMD will be hosting CUFF this year on November 8th/9th. In the past, this has served as a high level end-of-season tournament and we'd like to keep it that way as we bring it back from a three year hiatus. Our goal is to be able to serve as a middle ground linking high level competition from the North East with the ACC's.

The bid fee will be $300 per team. We are looking to make it a 16 team tournament, but may expand to 20 depending on interest.

We are committed to running a great tournament, and will be supplying food bags, water sources, lined fields, and Observers, as well as an on field trainer.

Please email us at umdmensultimate@gmail.com with your team name and contact and if you need any documentation such as a w9 or invoice.

Best,
Maryland Ultimate

Teams,

Indiana Wesleyan is hosting its second Fall tournament of the year on November 8-9th in Marion, IN. With the tournament being so late in the fall, the goal is to provide a chance for teams to get a shot at getting in some quality competitive reps with their A-team as a tune-up for the spring season. The tournament will feature an A team division, and hopefully a B team division if we can get enough sign ups. The cost is only 250 per team, and 400 total if you bring an A and a B team. All you have to do is email xtcarpx@gmail.com with your captain's name, school name, contact email & phone number.

Score report page can be found here: http://scorereport.net/2014/college-open/event14692

Food and water will be provided and some leftover merch from past tournaments will be available at discount price.

Thank you!

The 2015 college season is right around the corner and it's time to start planning your Spring schedule. This year, there are lots of exciting changes in the Easterns series of events including an all new tournament and the revival of one of the best. All these great events will be held at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex. Based on feedback from players at Easterns last year, I feel it's safe to say it's one of the best complexes and sites for Ultimate in the country. On beach housing minutes from the complex? Beautiful, full sized fields? Multiple trainers and staff? Observers? USA Ultimate sanctioning? We've got it all.

Easterns Qualifier - Feb. 21/22 - Open Only, Max of 28 teams with the winner earning a free bid to Easterns 2015.

DIII Easterns - Mar. 21/22/23 - Open and Women's divisions, Max of 28 teams total. Last years Open DIII Easterns was a great success so this year we're adding a Women's division and giving this tournament it's own weekend. We're also adding Friday night games to showcase the sport under the lights. For those interested, High Tide will be running at the same site during the week.

Easterns - Mar. 27/28/29 - Open and Women's divisions, 16 Open Teams, 12 Women's Teams Max. Open teams committed include UNCW, UNC, Pitt and last years champions Michigan. Women's interested teams include UNCW and UNC.

Submit your interest in attending online - http://www.seamenultimate.com/tournaments/easterns/easternse asterns-qualifier-form/

I'm running for an At-Large seat on USA Ultimate's Board of Directors. Voting begins on 10/3 and ends on 10/17. Any USAU member, regardless of age, can vote!

When voting begins you'll be able to cast your vote by logging into your USAU membership page right here: members.usaultimate.org.

You can learn more about my candidacy at JoshSeamon2014.com.

Vote for me if you're interested in growing Ultimate.

Over the past 22 years I have transitioned from an Ultimate life primarily focused on playing, to one centered around Ultimate organization and administration. I have extensive Ultimate administrative experience on the local (Valley Ultimate, VYUL), regional (BUDA), national (USAU), and international (Ultimate Peace) levels. I served for three years on the USAU Board of Directors, and in my current job I chair a high school math department of 13 teachers. I have a deep belief in the power of Ultimate to change lives and a long, well-proven track record of getting things done inside the world of Ultimate.

I believe that it is imperative for youth Ultimate to continue to grow at an accelerating rate. We need our country to be flooded with kids playing Ultimate in every public park, all the time. We're moving in the right direction, but we still have a long way to go.

I know how to grow youth Ultimate: I founded the largest HS Ultimate tournament in the east and have run well over 1,000 games of youth Ultimate at my events since 2005. Additionally, I have also created multiple youth club programs spanning girls, mixed, and open divisions.

I believe it is absolutely crucial that we grow women's Ultimate and have as many women playing the sport as men. For this revolution to be successful we must take concrete and purposeful steps like those we are seeing taken by the G.U.M. program at USAU. We're moving in the right direction, but even more time, money, and resources need to be built into the movement.

I know how to grow women's Ultimate: I was on the first USAU women's Ultimate committee, helped build the Without Limit's website, and have founded multiple youth girls teams, one of which became the first Varsity level program in the state of Vermont. Additionally, I have run the largest HS girls tournament in the east since 2010. In all I have hosted over 400 games of youth girls Ultimate since 2005.

The Ultimate community must stay focused on it's core belief in Spirit of the Game. We must continually examine how SoTG best plays out across our numerous levels of play. It is not a simple analysis and must not be taken lightly. While the exact meaning of SoTG is different for everyone, I firmly believe that it must remain at the forefront of how USAU grows the sport.

I know how to grow SoTG: For the past three years I have worked as the Director of Training and Development for Ultimate Peace. I have leveraged the full power of SoTG to facilitate the formation of friendships and trust between completely partitioned communities.

USAU must continue to operate with a clear vision firmly grounded in the views of the membership. Information must be continually collected from all corners of USAU and used as the building blocks in creating purposeful, meaningful, and effective strategic plans. USAU must live up to its' promise and fully implement each element in every strategic plan.

I know how to follow through on a strategic plan to grow USAU: In my three years on the USAU Board of Directors, I helped turn the first strategic plan into a reality. I chaired the World Games Committee, served on the Nominating Committee, and was a two-year member of the Executive Committee. Additionally, for the past three years I have served as USAU's Northeast Regional Youth Director, as well as a member of the Competition Committee.

I am thrilled at the opportunity to expand my service for USA Ultimate.

lord...those observer mechanics are bad!

the Trail isn't supposed to STEAL the Lead observer's "goal" signal. The Trail is supposed to ONLY give the 'elbows low half touchdown' signal which tells the Lead that there are no violations in the back field and to go ahead and GIVE THEM THE SCORE signal.

The Lead is supposed to give the two hands pointed downward to signal that a catch was made in the end zone.....while looking back to the Trail to see if the Trail's giving the "low elbows half touchdown" signal.....THEN give the touch down signal. That is...the Lead should just give two hands low while looking back, and THEN give the touchdown.

What's with EVERYONE giving the low elbow half touchdown signal??? and.....what's with the Trail giving the touch down signal?????

AND.....

the GOAL signal is two hands raised straight up over head with PALMS FACING one another. The Trail, who shouldn't be giving the signal ANYWAY.....has arms up over head with PALMS FACING FORWARD like he's being held up by a gunman!!!!
what in the hell is that????????

hey.....take some f-ing pride in your mechanics lazy bones!!!!!
are you being held up in an ally or signaling a score??????

~~~~~~~~
at the 2 minute mark....the right side Lead is signaling a called pick. he's got his arm straight up and signals the two hands on the hips nicely........
But what the hell is the Trail ref(at the disc) doing giving the nazi salute????? Come on Trail observer!....the 'stop play for a violation' signal is your arm STRAIGHT up with palm forward. Ditch the nazi salute and show some pride in your mechanics!
oooohhhhhhhh jeepers! Trail observer.....don't lean over and put your hands on your knees while officiating! are you tired? it's 3-1!!!!!! stand up and officiate!!!!
~~~~~~~~~~

same point....another pick. same nazi salute from the Trail observer. lazy! get your arm UP STRAIGHT!
what's up with travel call after the second pick? looks like the thrower sticks the pivot.
and.....again...the bad 'goal' mechanics by every observer after the red team's goal.

~~~~~~~~~~~
FINALLY!!!!! YES!!!! at 11:50 the near observer, as Lead FINALLY gives a nice touchdown signal...no weird hick up middle two elbows low half touchdown signal. two hands down...looking...then touchdown signal.
one problem tho.....why are his palms facing forward?!?!?! it's not a "STICK UP"....it's a SCORE!!!!
Hello,
I keep seeing videos posted here on reddit....and of course, i usually check out the observers along with the game action.
Over and over, i see poor 'goal' mechanics by the endzone observer.
The UOA, which features highly trained observers who hustle like crazy, make well educated calls AND have great mechanics, has always been 'criticized' by USAUltimate observer zealots for NOT being trained properly(which is FAR from the truth)........BUT the USAUltimate observers, who 'they' claim are super well educated and receive THE best and most comprehensive training imaginable.....don't even do the "goal" signal correctly.
Sincerely and seriously.....there's pretty much ONE signal that USAUltimate observers give(score)....and they don't even do THAT ONE correctly. What does that say about their super advanced and comprehensive training? answer: it says that their training isn't that great, that their teachers aren't so good and that they might not be taking the right approach.
The "goal" signal by the endzone observer SHOULD BE....two hands down to signify a reception in the endzone, while they make eye contact with their Trail partner to see if there are any calls in the back field....THEN two hands straight up over head like the touch down signal.
THE TRAIL observer, if there are no calls in the back field, is supposed to give the low elbow two hands up mini-touch down signal to TELL THE LEAD, "give them the goal!"
Why do i keep seeing the LEAD endzone observer give three separate signals?????.....2 hands down, mini low elblow touch down....THEN the two hands up TOUCH DOWN signal?????
if ya can't get the simple mechanics right........lord knows what OTHER important things you're screwing up!
MECHANICS tell the story.....and if you're screwing up the story....you probably can't be trusted to officiate a game.
now...i know...i get it....this post will be downvoted and everyone will AGAIN see that i'm a big mean guy with nothing better to do that to be angry.....
OR....you might interpret my concern to AGAIN be for the BETTERMENT and IMPROVEMENT of ALL OFFICIATING for the sport of ultimate.
hell....i didn't get flown BY THE UPA to boulder co to teach them HOW TO officiate ultimate properly so that they could FUDGE IT UP.
i went there to help.....so......stop fudging up the mechanics!!!
IMPROVE...so that the sport will too.
please...reply with comments, questions, concerns, answers....anything ABOUT ULTIMATE that will HELP TO IMPROVE ultimate and its officiating.
Live stream of 2014 european championship finals in frankfurt?
EUF and the tournament directors Robert Pesch and Heiko Karpowski want to live stream the stadium games at EUCF 2014 in frankfurt. Because we think that costs should not be covered by the players but by the spectators, we are organizing a crowdfunding. Of course players and spectators could be the same, because footages will be available live and as VOD.
Coverage will be done by frisbeesport.playo.tv, who covered the last two eucf as well with 5 cameras and a native speaking and ultimate experieced commentator. Have a look at last years poolplay CUSB vs. Flying Angels @ EUCF2013: http://www.playo.tv/video/cusb-la-fotta-vs-flying-angels-poo l-2-1028.aspx
Crowdfunding will be made via indiegogo.com. Our Crowdfunding means that many supporters (players and companies) spend money to reach a goal.
If goal 1 is reached the livestreaming of the stadium games will happen, if not ALL MONEY GOES BACK to the supporters and there will be no livestreaming.
If goal 2 is reached we can cover also the saturday stadium games.
Here is the link: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/eucf-2014-livestreaming-b y-frisbeesport-playo-tv/x/8521620
Goal 1: To cover the final day with 3 finals we need to collect 2000 Euro.
Goal 2: To cover saturday and the final day with 3 finals we need to collect 4000 Euro.
Thats the way you can support and profit from the coverage:
Spend 3 Euro as a spectator and you will get a free ticket for the hole event. (worth 5 Euro): https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/eucf-2014-livestreaming-b y-frisbeesport-playo-tv/contributions/new?perk_amt=3&per k_id=2280429
Spend 40 Euro as a team and you will get 20 free tickets for the hole event: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/eucf-2014-livestreaming-b y-frisbeesport-playo-tv/contributions/new?perk_amt=40&pe rk_id=2280430
Spend 300 Euro as a company and you will get two 20sec. commercialspots.. at each covered game (you have to produce the spots) :https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/eucf-2014-livestreaming- by-frisbeesport-playo-tv/contributions/new?perk_amt=300& perk_id=2280433
The crowdfunding ends on 14th of september midnight so there are 13 days left to support it by spending and sharing! The Ultimate szene decides.
