Dear Ultimate Community,

We are very pleased to announce an exciting new undertaking for the
2009-2010 college women's ultimate season! With the help and support
of the Washington University Women’s Ultimate program, we will be
hosting two tournaments in St. Louis, MO this season.

We invite you to read all of the details here:
http://midwestultimate.texasultimate.org/

- Midwest Warmup (Nov 7-8, 2009)- Up to 24 women’s teams
Bid window open now! Bids accepted on a rolling basis. Email
throwdown.td (at) gmail dot com
Bid Fee: $325

- Midwest Throwdown (March 6-7, 2010)- Up to 12 Division I women’s
teams, 12 Division II women’s teams, and 8 Roundup Division women’s
teams
Bid window open early fall

At Midwest Throwdown, there will be a special Roundup Division (8
teams) that is part-tournament, part-skills clinic. We have invited
some of the top women's club players from around North America to
guest coach teams for the weekend. These teams will be young and/or
developing programs in the area who would benefit greatly from a
weekend of intense teaching and mentoring. Teams will play 4-6 games
over the course of the weekend, but will also have scheduled bye
rounds where their guest coaches will be able to go over drills and
skills with them, review strategy, and generally give them tools that
they can take back with them to practice. We anticipate a high level
of demand for this division of Throwdown, so if you play for a young
team that could benefit from some high-level coaching, stay tuned for
details about the application process. There will also be “regular”
Division I and Division II competition.

In order to be able to secure the best coaches possible for the
Midwest Throwdown Roundup Division, we are running a fundraiser
tournament this fall, Midwest Warmup, where 100% of the profits will
go toward this project. In addition, it will be fantastic opportunity
to introduce your rookies to ultimate at a well-run tournament at an
awesome field site with great amenities. It is our hope that this
project is something that will be replicated across the country, and
we invite you to join us for the ride.

Please feel free to contact us with questions and/or comments at
throwdown.td (at) gmail dot com

Sincerely,
Michelle Ng (Berkeley Ultimate '04-'06, Texas Ultimate '07-'08, Texas
Showdown)
Anna Nazarov (UCLA Ultimate '03-'07, Bay Area Zeitgeist)
Holly Greunke (Wisconsin Ultimate '02-'07)

The University of Chicago Supersnatch grabs the 8th bid to Midwest
Warmup.

We've also secured four outstanding coaches for Midwest Throwdown in
the spring. We look forward to announcing the full lineup soon, but
we are very excited to have coaches from Seattle Riot, Texas Showdown,
Boston Brute Squad, and Bay Area Zeitgeist so far.

Check out the details at:
http://midwestultimate.texasultimate.org

Michelle will be at Chesapeake Open this weekend and Anna will be at
the Labor Day Ultimate Championships the following week, so come find
us if you'd like to talk about what we're doing!

Multiple-time College Championships Qualifier Wisconsin Bella Donna
has their bid in.

Is Wisconsin the front-runner for the National Title this year? They
return Fury's Georgia Bosscher, Brute Squad's Amber Sinicrope, and
Showdown's Frances Tsukano, plus Emelie McKain and many others...

University of Texas Melee (perennial College Championships Qualifier),
St. Louis University Ladies Ultimate (2009 College Championships
Qualifier), and Washington University B have submitted their bids,
bringing the field to 17 teams, including the best that the South,
Central, and Great Lakes have to offer.

We would love to host 24 women's teams that weekend, so please
consider submitting a bid to this tournament and supporting a great
cause! If this date doesn't work for you, plan to attend Midwest
Throwdown in March. Both Midwest Warmup and Midwest Throwdown are
guaranteed to be well-run tournaments with great competition. Help us
build college women's ultimate!

http://midwestultimate.texasultimate.org/

Also, a big shoutout to our long-time friend Kristen Lamm of Atlanta
Ozone for agreeing to design the logos and tournament merchandise for
us pro bono. As many of you know, she is an extremely talented
designer and we very much appreciate her support of these tournaments!

Catch Anna at Labor Day this weekend or Michelle at Chicago
Heavyweights next weekend! We'd love to talk some ultimate with you.

A number of teams have expressed interest in the remaining handful of
bids. We anticipate that the bid window will be closed by the end of
the week, so act now to get in on the action!

We have SEVEN 2009 UPA College Championships Qualifiers on board and a
number of others who have attended the Championships over the past few
seasons. We are exploring the possibility of expanding the tournament
and are currently trying to book more fields for Midwest Throwdown in
March due to higher levels of interest than we anticipated. :) We're
really excited about how all of this is coming together-- this is a
far cry from the eight team fall tournament hosted by Texas Ultimate
in Kansas City just two years ago.

For those of you who will be at Chicago Heavyweights this weekend,
stop by Showdown's sidelines and chat with Michelle if you have ideas,
feedback, or just want to talk some ultimate.

Thank you all for your support of this project!

Michelle, Anna, and Holly

Vanderbilt University Voodoo secures the 22nd bid. We are exploring
the possibility of expanding the tournament in order to accommodate
all of the interest that we have received. Get your bid in today!

Also, preliminary details about two more exciting tournaments here:

Thank you for all of your support.

Northwestern University Gungho is in. We have secured sponsorships
from Papa John's, Einstein Bagels, Smoothie King, Dierbergs, and
Vitamin Water, and we are working hard to secure others. We hope to
be able to expand the tournament to host 28 teams, and we will make an
announcement about that as soon as we've vetted the format.

Check out our website at:
http://midwestultimate.texasultimate.org

Also, we've kicked off the planning process for two more exciting
projects:
http://midwestultimate.texasultimate.org/other-tournaments

We are excited to be building a collaboration among college women's
ultimate programs around the nation, and we hope that Washington
University Tilt, University of Texas Melee, and University of
Pennsylvania Venus pave the way for more resource sharing among teams
everywhere.

Thank you for all of your support and please feel free to drop us a
line if you have any questions and/or comments.
