I just wanted to see what everyone's thoughts are on stealing discs from other teams. When I was a freshman in college, a senior told me to steal all the discs I can, because eventually, I will get mine stolen. It's like an unwritten rule.

Here's a thread from a couple years ago on that same topic. You likely won't get as much participation on RSD these days.

And if you and your senior mentor go out of your way to steal discs, you are both major dicks.

Except when the Disc-Lord isn't the one stealing the disc, it's some
douchebag stealing it. An example of the Disc-Lord takething away a
disc is when it gets stuck in a tree and is not retrievable.

as i wrote in the thread baer directed folks to.....

if you're just gonna leave your disc laying around, not taking care of
it.....there's always someone willing to take it home and take real
nice care of it.

I think there is a distinction between "actively" stealing a disc, as
illustrated in the statement "a senior told me to steal all the discs
I can,
because eventually, I will get mine stolen" and "passively" stealing a
disc, such as taking stranded discs at the end of the day.

I understand the sentiment, but I don't think it's entirely true.

The scene is College Southerns, 2009. We play our first game and have a bye afterwards. I specifically placed my sandals in my bag in order to prevent theft. During the bye I look for my sandals and they are nowhere to be found. They have been stolen out of my bag. I spend the rest of the tournament either wearing cleats or going barefoot.

Fast forward to the end of the day Sunday. We hang around for finals. After finals are over we cross an empty field on the way to our cars. In the middle of the field, not on the sidelines, directly in my walking path, is a pair of different sandals that were exactly my size. My old sandals were on their last legs. I still wear those sandals that were bestowed upon me by the Frisbee gods.

They giveth and they taketh away. You simply have to have faith that the Frisbee gods will allow it to all even out in the end.

i mean... a disc laying in the middle of a field at the end of the day after people are gone is one thing... but asking someone's sandals? Especially after you know EXACTLY how annoying it is.

discs are MAYBE acceptable. footwear? I dont think so.

sure seems like you need some kind of security as SOTD sure isnt
working. one would tend to wonder how you guys can handle on field
supervision and security when ya cant seem to handle it off the field

boy its thunderdome in yalls ultimate community isnt it. i never herd
of such a zanie checks and balances system. in fact, you could
probably use that same tactic ON THE FIELD......like when you get
burned on a bogus call in the first game of your tourny you can
realight your karma by calling a shitty call yourself the following
day in the last round.

i think its GREAT how you guys have found a way of balancing things
out with such an arbitrary and caprecious honor code.

oh well, the precident has been established......so what are you gonna
do.

of course, YOU PEOPLE DO REALIZE, that, just like with sotg, if
EVERYBODY isnt on the same page with what is and isnt acceptable then
you end up in a shit pile.

what i dont get is if you cant rely on your ultimate bretheren not to
fuck you over and steal your shit OFF the field, how in the fuck do
you trust them to make honorable calls ON the field.

Don't do it. Life is easier when you're not a scumbag like your
senior. You should have told him to steal his own discs.

this is the best post ever. made me laugh outloud. you people crazy to think a stranger won't fuck you in the ass on the field just like he seems to be doing off the field. nice work Toad. since i always leave the fields last, I end up with a ton of discs. pays sometimes to love the game.
