hey.....i'd rather read a hundred fucking misspelled words and in your
face fuck offs....than to read one more fucking post telling someone
how to write or spell or telling someone else how to act or answer or
reply.
of course i'm writing about all you fucks who write the same tired
petty bullshit to toad's posts.
yes....he's gonna misspell some words....he's gonna be "in your
face".....
most of you don't like the repetitive nature of his
ideas....yet....you repeat the same fucking things to him every chance
you get.

I do think there's a tremendous irony in that Toad is such a diehard
advocate for professionalism in Ultimate (standardized jerseys, no
trucker hats) espousing a clean mainstream ideal, and the fact that
his presentation of his views is absent the same standards. While
it's true that this isn't a formal forum and while it seems petty,
things like spelling do matter. It's like walking into a job
interview dressed in acid-washed jeans and a wifebeater; what you
choose to wear has no bearing on whether or not you're qualified, but
it's hard for most people to look past the fact that nobody should
wear acid-washed jeans.
I think Toad has a lot of worthy ideas (unlike Frank), and more people
would listen to him and take him seriously if he presented his stances
differently and less frequently. That said, Toad is Toad and I
completely agree with Mike G. that those who are bashing things like
Toad's spelling and style are better served to stare at the sun or
bang their heads on the wall.

see, now i think the irony is the fact that no one seems to care about
the rag tag, informal way ultimate is presented yet those that cling
to informality of it THE MOST seem to have the biggest problems with
how i present myself here on this forum........thats pretty informal
itself. I mean, as far as i know, this is dars blog and i
specifically remember HIM saying that there was no standard when it
came to proper spelling.

because you think other people are being hypocritical, doesn't mean
you're not being hypocritical.
If you think a major problem with ultimate is that it's not presented
professionally, then maybe you should present your ideas a bit more

It's not the spelling that I mind so much. It's the fact that you
have to sift through his obnoxious insults, ad hominem attacks, and
other logical fallacies to find any nuggets of wisdom in his posts.
How can you have a productive discussion with someone who calls you a
"fag" or "spirit zealot" when you disagree with him? I swear to God
it's like we're in the 3rd grade all over again...
As for the thread which excludes him, it was Toad himself who invited
Rob to start a discussion on referees vs. self-officiation where he
promised not to crap all over it. It's the first intelligent debate
we've had on the subject and, ironically, we have Toad to thank for
not participating in it!

It's actually a really bad argument to think that the same level of
professionalism would be expected from a sport trying to grow in
popularity and a casual online conversation. That's like if I were
editing a friend's paper and him dismissing my edits because I wasn't
speaking perfectly in casual conversation. Also Toad pointing out that
others are being hypocritical isn't necessarily trying to say he
isn't, but he makes a valid point actually. He's critiquing a sport,
while others are critiquing him while being guilty of their own
critique. If both were just attacking each other then it would be a
pointless argument, but since he isn't directly trying to attack his
critics I think his point of their own failures is quite valid...

intellegent????? what the fuck was so intelligent about it? One guy
came to some kind of a "duh, i dont know what the answer is"
conclusion. REAL intelligent. and it lasted what, all of about 8
hours? Nothing was gained from that brief and toad-less thread.
trust that. and, might i add, Yawnsvill (with the exception of one
ref supporter). Really, it dont even matter as it seems the uk is
gonna leave the us in the dust with their experimental MLU style
event. Somthing tells me that they are do it right and actually get
their ref crew to practice prior to the event too.....not simply throw
the refs together the day of the event.

and i will take ultimate more seriously when people start presenting

stroke your own ego. Do you really find it HILARIOUS that Gerics is
complaining about people complaining? Does this nugget of irony
brighten what is otherwise a pretty grey life? While Mike points out

yes. this is a discussion about nothing. i am adding nothing to
nothing. that you are complaining about nothing (i.e., the thing that
you've identified as nothing, my comments) is, i would suggest, worse
than the people who are complaining about something. unless you also
are beating me at my own game by being ironic. i can't tell.
and we all just write the way that we write. geric's writing is
outside the norm (but not beyond the pale). he is too conversational
sometimes, but it is accepted because he says stuff that is
interesting, and because we know that's he's done a lot of work to
move the community forward.
one problem with toad is that the way that he writes is beyond the
pale for some of us (using homophobia, for example). you don't share
the same set of standards for this type of conversation as some of his
critics. that's fine. but that doesn't mean that the standards that
the critics have are ridiculous.

Actually, I think he's hitting on an excellent point. He's complaining
not about nothing, but about the nothing that's being added to
nothing. Maybe adding nothing to nothing is no big deal by itself, but
if you keep heaping more nothing upon nothing, well, then you have a
lot of nothing. And if there's enough nothing you'll start to get
confused about what nothing is and completely lose sight of the fact
that there was nothing to begin with. In effect, the wool will have
been pulled over your eyes and you'll have lost sight of the truth of
the subject at hand. You'll find yourself in an endless cycle of
trying to realize the essential reality: that there was, is and always
will be nothing. Really, Jared is just saying you're guilty of leading
us deeper into existential confusion, and he is trying to help break
the cycle. Help us achieve Nirvana, as it were.

Hey, talk to UV rob. he's the one that originally contented that, if
i were to not polute "ref,refzerver,observer" threads then there would
be more "intellegent" paticipation that people WOULD undoubtedly have
a genuine interest in participating in. I know i add emmensly to ANY
debate on that subject.....as many of them, i start myself. We'll see
as all my ideas, or better yet suggestions (that arent really even
mine to begin with.......they are simply common practices in other
sports), eventually come to pass. So I guess my role is to break down
the resistors........and entertain my self as i argue with a bunch of
"non sports minded" people.
and i will ad that (as per "life or death") that it wouldnt be too
farfetched to think that if all other traditional sports were to ditch
their ref systems in favor of a "player controled" one that they would
ALL find themselves in quite the mire. SO, one could argue that the
oppisite action would have the opposite effect........and that the
addition of refs WOULD give the sport of ultimate LIFE........as a
real, legit and respected sport that is.(is this what the spirit
zealots charge to be a logical fallacy????)

one more point.....i'm the kind of person that sais things that others
THINK but are not willing to speak for one reason or another. And you
cant deny the way that most indeferent people feel they must cator to
the spiritzealots (especially since they make up the upa
administration) and feel the need to tip toe around this ever
controversial ref issue because it challenges the foundation of the
sport and the rules of the sport. Plain and simple, a number of
people have bought into the sacredness of ultimate and sotg, and those
that arent "believers" are obviously not the type of people that want
to, or are willing to, "rock the boat". Where as i obviously am.
ever thought of that?.......didnt think so!
