The League Observer System(LOS) was a big success here in the
Wilmington Winter Frisbee League!

EVERY game this season was Observed.
Tons of new folks got experience keeping time, calling in and out of
bounds, in and out of the endzone and got to settle a few disputes
about fouls and travels.

It's pretty cool.....to be the first league in the history of
ultimate...to have EVERY SINGLE GAME observed!!!!
we're pretty cool.

Does your league use the LOS?
Do you want to learn more about the LOS and how easy it is to have
observers cover all YOUR league games?
contact us!

how would you compare the LOS to the "instructional observer program"
that the upa proposed and passed(although i have no earthy idea what
good it does to have the upa propose and pass ANY idea). I mean i
sure havent heard A THING about anyone(league) actually UNING their
version..........and, at this point in time, dont understand why
anyone WOULD use it when this LOS seems much better and more
comprehensive.

---i don't know how to compare the 'instructional observer program" to
the LOS....because i have no idea what the IOP is.
i have not heard of a league using the IOP...whatever it is.

how would i compare the LOS and IOP.....
i'd say that the LOS works wonderfully....that it provides observing
opportunities for folks that would never have the opportunity
otherwise....that it educates experience and new comers to ultimate
about some of the rules and responsibilities of observers....
the LOS works as a recruiting tool. several new observers loved the
experience and are now signed up to work some of the UOA events this
spring.
some new folks JUST YESTERDAY....were battling to earn a spot in the
FINALS of our Winter League!.....they were competing for the chance to
work finals.

The LOS...isn't an idea...or a plan...or a dream.
it's simply EXACTLY something that we DID.
we implimented it....and stuck to it....and it worked....and was a
success.

we didn't ask a bunch of people about it.
we didn't take a vote.
we didn't sit around a table and discuss it.
we didn't invite outside ideas.

we wanted observers.
we wanted to provide a positive atmosphere for them to try it out and
learn about it.
and we did it.

and it worked.

If you want info on how to use the LOS for your League...contact me
directly.

its a softer more upa-ish version. I think they seriously limit the
role of the "intructional observers" to just HELPING on line calls and
thats about it i think? Its very very restrictive in the amount of
"control" these "observers" have and use (thus equally restrictive in
its potential development, progression and benefits). Typical upa
watered down version whose main intent is to keep the sotg, "player
control" system alive........and, i guess, prevent any type of REAL
progression and or evolution alive. Looks like they are gonna have to
update their program IF they want to keep up though.

i guess i figured you knew of it since they brought you into the loop
on the whole upa observer committee thing. I mean, if they really
want this program to get legs and be effective wouldnt they be
promoting it, AND ITS USE, to all their certified
observers........especially the ones that are involved in directing
rec league comp?????

Hey G, I think we should have a meeting to discuss the pros, cons, ups
and downs of LOS and then have another meeting to discuss the meeting
we just had. Then vote upon when the next meeting should be to
discuss the previous two meetings only to discover that what you did
without a meeting worked. It's the UPA way.
