in mikes defense, the observed games are very well done imo. i went twice last year and as captain of my college team we are pretty excited to head down there again this weekend. as a developing team, i think its important for our young guys (a lot of first years) to understand both sides of the ultimate scene.

albeit young, (i was five at the time of the original incident mentioned)i think observers are the way to go if ultimate wants to move into the limelight of respected sports. i like the concept of SOTG, and really wish the game would work as such but a small private school in central carolina is going to have a tough time enforcing sotg against yearly national contenders in the area, who can be pretty big pricks at times. whenever we've had observers it kept our hot heads cool (we have a few) as well as kept our young guys from being taken advantage of by veteran players fouling on the mark etc.

personally i wish officials werent necessary, i love playing pick-up at home with my high school team where the definition of foul is the same to everyone. but at this level it might be necessary to keep the game under control, althought its a shame it has to be that way

ic, i can see how mike rubs people the wrong way on rsd (there is wayy too much bullshit going back and forth between everyone on here-this thread for example seemed like a blatent attack, maybe well deserved but the whole ordeal seems like old news). as a "lurker" who has worked with mike personally, he seems professional enough and does a good job with his organization outside of rsd

Bias? People don't have bias. If people were biased then SOTG wouldn't work.

if greg southerner were charismatic, logical person who
placed the growth of the sport above his egos. If he
presented their ideas in a reasonable manner, instead of
just belittling everyone on RSD that didn't agree with his

he might actually be able to make a significant impact on

it's pretty easy to back up the facts. Mike G has observerd at least 3 national championship games. has been invited to speak at USAU conferences about observing. if you sift through RSD you will find countless posts from players and coaches who have taken their teams to UOA events and have nothing but rave reviews.

if that seems incompatible to you . . . well, then you just need to get with it.

yep, get with it or get on out.

In Mike G's defense you can dig up all this nonsense from his past if you want, but it seems like he's doing a pretty damn good job with the uoa. Everyone on here has done something in their past they are not proud of at some point and if this happened 15 years ago or whatever then people should stop bringing it up. Besides what have all of you done to help the game of ultimate except slander someone who is trying to do his part in helping it. Also props on the webcast this weekend Mike, can't wait to watch it.

No offense Gregs but your starting to get as tired and repetitive as ulticritic. As someone who has had arguments with gerics in the past I have found him to be reasonable. I got on his case big time about all of the homophobic remarks and what not and he apologized and I moved on. You guys just can't seem to drop it. People make mistakes, it happens, and for you two to be so self righteous is just annoying. I understand arguing with ulticritic, because quite frankly he annoys the shit out of me too but Gerics is doing something positive. Why don't you go out and try and help the sport somehow instead of pointing the finger at someone for something they did fifteen years ago.

never will! People aren't entitled to my spirit, once I see bad spirit directed at myself or any undeserving
person around me, I will jump their sh#%#t every time, without fail! I applaud your success with Mr Geric on that particular issue, congratulations! I see them as one entity, joined at the hip, & until he severs himself from
Mr. Leber, thats how it will stay! Until that time he is responsible for every utterance of Mr Leber that he does not immediately discredit. They/he originated this whole situation, attacking me when on my first post
ever, I had the manners to introduce my self, give a bit of my background and and show support of a great paper

could ALSO find some positive things written about me....hosting
camps, running tournaments, officiating big games, and more......but
they wouldn't be haters and discreditors and general douche bag fuck
wads if they reported that stuff.
