So it seems high tide has now been moved 2 hours south to the Island
of Jekyll, no longer to be in Savannah....and not as conveniently
located to Tybee Island the usual crashpoint for all us rambunctious
youngins. Of course with the usual rush that there is, I've already
put a deposit on the house and made the plans yadda yadda.

Is anyone else in a similar situation?
I'm thinking we'll be staying on tybee, probably hitting up the hat
tourney, and maybe seeing if we can get some low tide sort of thing
going in the neighborhood.

What is everyone else thinkin?

Yup. I have a feeling a lot of people are in this situation. Ed
really screwed us all on this one. The fields were shit last year
though, and way too far from Tybee as it was, with an inflated tourney
fee of 500 dollars. Unfortunately its the best way to see old friends
from colleges all over and now we have a split.

I would be surprised if every team ended up in Tybee, or if every team
ended up in Jekyll. No matter what there are going to be the teams
like you and us that planned ahead (or thought we did) and put down a
deposit early on a cheap house only to find it will now be 2 hours
from games, and there are going to be the teams that always stay in
rooms so it will not matter to them that the tourney has moved, the
view out of their 2 bedroom hotel window will change.

I just wish I could go down there and check out Jekyll Island and see
if the fields are nice and the Island will be as fun as Tybee, or if
the tourney was just moved to increase the profit margin of the whole
thing. I have a bad feeling that it is the latter.

The fields on Jekyll Island are amazing. One of the nicest soccer
complexes in the South East. Much better grass than the fields in
Savannah.

Also, there are a ton of apartment style hotels and what not on the
island also. You can also camp (as far as I remember.)

The island as a whole is nice. There aren't very many people (similar
to Tybee) and every where you go is going to be a few steps from the
beach. Also, if you don't mind driving 20-25 minutes St. Simons
Island has plenty of options as well.

Hope this helps anyone playing in that High Tide.

On Jekyll, are there the same options in terms of big 3 story mansions
that you can pack 20+ kids into? Also, did yall not like Forsyth Park?
That place was awesome and playing in downtown Savannah was half the
reason we made the trip.

Any word from the TD on the reason for the move? Was Forsyth hard to
get, too pricey?

Of those that have already booked, what weeks are yall?

I'd be at least a little surprised if moving the tournament to Jekyll
would increase High Tide's profit margin, mostly because the fields at
Jekyll are (approximately) a bazillion times better than the Little
Neck fields in Savannah and also better than the fields at Forsyth and
thus probably cost more. I played my first tournament ever at Jekyll
many moons ago, and I will never forget how nice the fields are.
Probably the nicest I've ever been on actually.

Plus the Forsyth fields are REALLY cheap to reserve. Like $300/day.
Ask any experienced TD, that's a deal. I'm sure whatever reason Ed
decided to move High Tide from Savannah to Jekyll it must have been
pretty good because he had a convenient (for him) set up in Savannah.

As mgwr88 said, Jekyll Island as a whole is very nice and along with
nearby St. Simons Island you'll have a blast down there.

Is that an invitation to spend spring break with the RPI women's team?

Isn't Jekyll Island where the Federal Reserve was created in a clandestine
meeting of the banking elite in 1913?

I say, for whomever has already invested in a place on tybee we start
up some sort of low tide going. There are some what decent fields on
the north side of the island....and of course the beach....which might
call for an epic DDC tourney...and that game with the boot....or is it
a bottle?

eh?

Maybe the move had something to do with a competitor tournament that
has mysteriously now disappeared that was supposed to be on jekyll? I
think it was called spring fever, run by somebody other than High
Tide. Anyone have the details to comment????

Is some other team going to do low tide?

Bentley Ultimate was in the same tough spot, seemed crazy to drive 2
hours, as much as we love Tybee. But Jekyll looks amazing from what
we can see, and close fields are gonna be much nicer for nursing
hangovers. Plus we couldn't not play in the tournament, that's our
whole reason for driving 20 hours. We booked a house today on Jekyll,
great place on Nelson lane and apparently there are lots of other
amazing houses. Let us know who else is down for taking over a new
island.

University of Rochester is completely down to play a low tide type of
thing. We would even help in organizing it somewhat. Are their other
teams besides Rochester and RPI that are still going to tybee?

So Delaware has a really odd schedule and our Spring Break falls on
March 29th-April 4th. Does anyone else know of another school with
this break? Preferably one who is planning on travelling somewhere
for spring break?

I'm interested in booking a house on Jekyll or Tybee (if Jekyll can't
be done) but we don't have anyone going that's 25 and all of the
owners seem to require someone of age. Did you guys find a way around
this or what?

A few years ago we went and they just never ID'd anyone. They told us
we needed someone, we said ok, and that was that.

So how many teams are actually doing this low tide thing on the
8th-15th? We're only planning on doing it if there are a few coed
teams there for the week.

St. Thomas (Minnesota) Purple Reign is going to the last session. The
person who booked our house did it online, is 21, and had no problem
as far as age goes.

What I've heard *cough cough* works to get around this is a bit of
deception and a late-check in (after business hours) to ensure that
your key pickup happens with nobody from the company present to
actually verify your age.

Barring that, alumni (got a coach?) are good. You might try combining
the two strategies--if alums aren't coming with, still have them call
to reserve and try to swing a late pick-up to dodge ID check. Really
just get a feel for who you're getting it from, some landlords are
tightwads and some are more your big companies that don't care so long
as you've got the dough.

Good luck.

So... this thread kind of died out, which is unfortunate. But
Rochester is totally down for Low Tide on Tybee the week of 3/9 to
3/13, and in fact I'm volunteering to be your man in terms of
organizing it. Tell your friends! Email me (kyleadams523 AT gmail) if
you're at all interested.

Peace in the new year,

Hello I'm planning my spring break and was just wondering if anyone
has/is booking house with jekyll reality? Just worried about them
being super strict or calling us out on contract. Is anyone else
taking that chance?

We booked with Parker Realty and they didn't even ask and it's not in
their contract that the renter has to be 25.

We're taking the chance and booked with Jekyll Realty and they didn't
ask for a 25 year old. I'm pretty sure our main concern is just
keeping any "wild" underage kids off the front lawn.

Just make sure the 21+ guys carry the keg to the backyard and it's all
good.

I'm looking for input from those that have already been to High Tide
2009. I know only one session has finished, but anything is better
than nothing. We're going to session 4 and were wondering what the
five-oh situation is on Jekyll, and how the island in general has
reacted to some partying ultimate players. We had a close run-in or
two last year on Tybee and want to be slightly more on our toes this
year. Thanks.
