Announcement - College Easterns 2009 - March 21,22 - Wilmington, NC

UNCW would like to announce that College Easterns 2009 will take place
on March 21,22 in Wilmington, NC. The Seamen and Seaweed are working
to make this the best Easterns yet and this years version will
feature:

-Night Games
-Open and women's showcase games under the lights
-The usual, high quality bermuda fields that never close due to rain
-Tournament amenities - fruit, bagels and the bottomless water jugs
-Shirts/Discs for sale
-Real time updating of scores via the UPA Score Reporter

For teams interested in making their spring break a learning
experience, Tully Beatty (former NY Cojones, Slicker, Raleigh Llama,
Warrior, Team USA, Ring of Fire player; NUTC Counselor and contributor
to the-huddle.org<http://the-huddle.org>) will be holding his
Competitive Edge sessions for teams looking to learn something and get
a practice session in the days before or after the tournament.
Interested teams should contact Tully at jbeatty (at) ec (dot) rr
(dot) com.

In addition, the UPA and UNCW are working to schedule a one day, level
1 coaches clinic during Easterns weekend. Reminder that teams
planning on having a coach on the sidelines for College Nationals must
have at least one coach with a Level 1 coaches certification. All
attempts will be made to setup the game schedules so that coaches
attending the clinics will be able to coach during the last round of
games on Saturday.

Bid Information:

Tournament fee is $250.

Bids should include 2008 results, 2009 outlook and team contact info.
Submit all bids to collegeeasternstd (at) gmail (dot) com.

How about real time score up dates for those that attend (or
scoreboards?)

No Observers???? I bet you could round up enough qualifed prople to
run a tos for each round (get mike g to spear head it). Why not
workshop it and see if participating teams think it would be worth the
addintional expense (which i would palpark at 20 to 30 bucks a game
per team). Now that would be an amenity worth flourishing.
AND you could get them/us to multitask and work the scoreboards
between points.

How about a reffed club allstar game Sat night? Now THAT would be
sweet too.

it just some boyscout , spirit guide class to coaching ultimate.

wow, it seems there is a definite demand for instructional services
within the ultimate community. And i'm sure you guys are taken in
some kablingy. Care to disclose what kind of hourerly wage you get
all things totaled?

My brother, who played college b-ball and then went on to coach hs b-
ball, used to make some jack runnin basketball camps in the summer.
Of course that probably made up for the 2 bucks an hour he got for
coaching during the season.

How about some local official woff "officials" training camps? I'd
much rather be certified by mike g than some schmuck from the upa.
Especially if we will be learning techneques of doing it to the same
level that his b-ball ref association superiors do with their
trainee's.

Don't you mean why would Southerns make their tourney the same weekend
as Easterns since this tournament is now in its 18th year? Seems
sillier.

Let us compare...ah there is no comparison.

Isn't Easterns usually the last weekend in March? Seems so based on
the last few years, so teams would expect it to be March 28-29. Last
year the March 22nd weekend was also Centex and Southerns. When is
Centex this year? Was Easterns moved because Centex is March 29th
weekend? Or are all three killer tourneys on one weekend???

----Easterns has traditionally been the weekend in March that there
ain't no baseball games....and the weekend that the school officials
offer up the most field space.

This was definitely the case in the 80s, 90s, and perhaps even in the
early 2000s.

Q: What's the common thread throughout that time period?
A: Southerns didn't exist yet.

Easterns used to be what Centex is now (i.e., "the most competitive
college tournament of the year"). These days, competition at
Southerns is bigger (more teams) and better (better teams) than
Easterns year in and year out. Southerns isn't quite up to par with
Centex in terms of competition just yet, but it is making great
strides every year.

And why is the level of competition at Southerns getting better?
Because Southerns is arguably the #1 tournament in the country in
terms of quality. Amenities, field space, tournament parties,
everything is better at Southerns. Georgia Southern University is
INCREDIBLY supportive of Swerve, Mike Nash, and their tournament staff
so every year they have everything they need to put on a world class
show.
