I didn't see this game but I played in the previous round and there
were really strong winds and driving rain. I heard people describing
the wind as 20-30 mph but I'm no good at estimating windspeed. In our
game (downpour vs. UBC, two teams not at the revolver/furious level)
there was not a single upwind point scored. So the weather likely
played a big part in the upset.

Props to Revolver, a serious dark horse at the tourney. Came in
seeded 4th and took the 2 seed, sticking with Sockeye in a close
championship game. In that game they were up 8-7 at half with each
team getting only 1 break, but Sockeye was able to get a couple more
breaks in the second half to close it out.

The game-to-go was pretty amazing to watch. There were a lot of calls
and a lot of arguing, even with the observers.

Not a lot of recap on NW regionals posted so far, so I'll provide a
quick fact-based summary (with a Revolver focus). Day 1 threatened
rain and wind but the first two rounds were still good weather.
Straightforward wins for the higher seeded teams. The third round had
one or two points of passable weather before the storm hit the fields,
and for the rest of the round it was totally impossible to throw
upwind for more than 10 or 15 yards. Pulls would not make it to half
field. Conditions sucked so much that it masked any skill level
difference between teams. I am of the opinion that games should be
suspended in those conditions in order to allow a fair result in a big
tournament like Regionals. Anyway, the higher seeds won out, either
because they won the flip or because they got a break in before the
storm came. By the fourth round the wind had died down enough so play
could proceed much more normally, but now it was raining pretty hard,
borderline sleeting. Revolver wins over Furious riding a lot of
emotional and defensive intensity; Revolver gets a break early,
another in the middle, and a few at the end to close it out at the
cap. Sockeye wins easily over Jam on the neighboring field.

Sunday starts cold but warms up fast as the sun comes out. The
quarters games are unremarkable and go as expected. By the time the
semi's start, weather is no longer a factor in the tournament.
Revolver v Jam in the first Semi was spirited - Revolver goes down a
break to start, but makes up two before the end of the half. Jam and
Revolver both able to put good pressure on the other teams Offense
lines, but Revolver scores more consistently until the hard cap
declares an end to the game after a final Revolver break. Revolver
and Sockeye play for the top spot, with both teams in pretty good
moods (seemingly) and having trouble getting defensive pressure on
each other. Revolver goes into half up 2, but sockeye comes out of
half converting on a miscue and overthrown huck to regain the break it
lost at half and trade out to win. I then only caught the last half
of the final game, Jam had a two break lead after half and gave both
breaks back to allow Furious to go up by one. Near the cap Jam
finally gets the break it needs to win and closes the game out on
offense on an exciting huck to Bart. A particular highlight of this
game was Seraglia spiking the disc over two Jam players who had
collided heads trying to D the goal thrown - the crowd was not
appreciative. USA chants marked the final result. Both wet clothes
and sunburn, as well as some hangovers are taken home to San Francisco.
