I'll bite, i'm interested...

but why, Mike?
it was hypothesized by a friend that it would just be a handler squad
vs. a handler squad trying to sky each other...which wouldn't be all
bad, but there could be much worse things to make it the worst game...

A couple of guesses as to why Mike G didn't like the All Star game...

The North decided to ground check every throw at one point. Every
pass was tapped in for play. Not sure why this was funny (it was) and
it certainly slowed the game down.

The North tried to play a shirtless point. Mike correctly asked the
players to suit back up. I think the rules require a visible number
so that TMFs and PMFs can be assessed. Keep your shirts on..

Both teams tried a ridiculous number of upside down throws. I believe
I even saw 2 double nutmeg throws. Lots of exciting turns but not
much high quality ultimate.

Overall, it was pretty fun to watch and will probably become a staple
of Easterns. Enjoy the jerseys...

---i didn't mind that.
i could tell that they were making fun of that useless ground tap
rule.
and...it didn't slow the game, because the observers were counting the
stall...and it was at 2 after every tap.

--more goofy than 'fun'.
more dorkie than 'cool'
more geekie laughing and hamming it up...than good exciting high level
all star type throws.
really....more of an exercise in...dumb ways to turn the disc
over....than outstanding ways to score.

---very cool uniforms for the All Stars.
what a very killer commemorative thing to have from a tournament.
the idea for the all star game is awesome...and i don't mind a 'not so
serious game' as long as the athletes don't look so much like doofuses
doing it.

TD Greg V is already working on some way to make the All Star game
"count" in some way.
like.....North/South Pools next year...with the All Star game winners
earning a bye in the early sunday rounds.
someone work on that....and get back to him.

the observers looked good.

definitely a sham that the all-star game was a joke to the players on
the field. would have thought those guys would have liked to show off
their "stuff" a little more, especially since the all-star game was
the only game the entire weekend with an actual crowd and two of the
best observers in the game! was hoping to actually see some killer
ultimate but oh well...

Well Stephen, with you in town and not on the field I imagine the
ultimate would not have been up to your "killer" standards.

It would take some seeding shennanigans, but it could work. If the
all-star game winners get their pools the first round byes, that would
be plenty of motivation to take it seriously.

The same thing happens at YCC every year. It's a disincentive to send
your best players to get tired or potentially injured in an all star
game when there are more real games to play later. Teams just send a
couple lower tier players to dick around while the stars rest up for
games that actually count.

All Star Team photos are up:

North: http://easterns.org/open/wp-admin/images/_D2X0831-2.jpg
(there are some missing members of the team in this photo...I believe
they were locked out of their hotel or something..)
South: http://easterns.org/open/wp-admin/images/_D2X0827-2.jpg

Next year, maybe the winning team will get matching shorts for those
killer jerseys. Or I'll figure out a way to give them a bye on
Sunday...

I think you should say the winning team gets the losing teams
jerseys. That way the losers get shamed.

The only way to get them to play is for pride, since using the all
star game to affect seeding or any 'real' things would be retarded.

That's actually a pretty awesome idea. Instead of the jerseys saying
"North/South All Stars," they should say "20XX Easterns All Star
Champions" or something, and the game winner gets both jerseys, so
they have a complete set of light/dark.

They should get player names and numbers on that shit, so when you
lose your shirt to someone, everyone knows who got owned.

Matt Johnson = genius. I am sick of lame All-Star games. Give them
something to play for.

I like these ideas...RSD is good for something! I knew it and will
likely use them in 2010!
