To the Ultimate players across the continent,, I hope this message
finds you well!

I hope you are doing well and I hope that those of you who are
participating in the series can reach all your personal and team
goals. I know I personally live for this time of year being that
regionals are in four days!

I David "Fetch" Janinis write to you all for your support! Many of
you already know this but I am currently running for candidate at
large on the UPA Board of Directors. I am very excited about this
chance to represent my fellow Ultimate players not only from the west
coast, but also from all over. I see this as an opportunity to really
reach out to the Ultimate community and talk about issues that affect
us all. Obviously not all ideas can be implemented, however I am very
keen on hearing your input once I am elected. I think the board
should be transparent and approachable and both of these attributes
are qualities I feel I possess.

My experience entails teaching Ultimate for Physical Education at
grades 4th – 6th, the Junior High level (7th & 8th) and at California
State University Chico. I have been to numerous state and national
conferences talking to physical education and health teachers about
how to teach quality Ultimate in the physical education classroom in
grades K-14. I have been sectional coordinator of the Northern
California / Oregon section for the past 2 years while founding and
continuing to run the very successful tournament of Discos Calientes.
I believe it is fundamentally important to support the growth and
leadership of women’s Ultimate. I am a strong advocate for women’s
Ultimate and was the one to discover and suggest to the UPA that
Angela Lumpkin http://web.ku.edu/~alumpkin/ speak to the UPA. She will
be the keynote speaker at the 2009 Organizers Conference. I would
highly recommend listening to her speak about sport ethics and the
ethos we are discussing today when referees are part of the
discussion.

With your support I hope to bring club nationals to other places in
the U.S. We should continue to promote youth Ultimate through
education and quality curriculum as well as competition simultaneously
and work together with such organizations as National Association for
Sport and Physical Education. The current president of this
organization I worked for three years so I see this as something that
is extremely attainable. Through quality education in schools we can
ensure growth and increase respect for the sport we all play and
love. It is also my plan to get more publicity for more high-level
Ultimate games as well as every UPA sanctioned event have the highest
benchmark for environmentally sustainable practices at tournaments.
It is my belief that we are at a point where we need to strongly
examine the possibility of contracts at various venues around the
country that can ensure field use well into the future. Soccer was at
that point some time ago and now they have a strong hold at many
patches of green you see.

I know my qualifications are strong and the future of Ultimate looks
bright. I hope to be able to represent you! I ask for your vote
today! I will see you on the field!

Play hard! Play fair!
