So while the big boys and girls are getting ready to throw down in Boulder, the rest of us will be fighting with all the aggression and fury of less than 7500 cats and dogs to be crowned USAU's third D-3 champion.

Anybody want to try their hand at seeding? There's a lot of wacky stuff to take into account, including but not limited to Rice beating out Harding to qualify after a pretty spotty regular season, St. Olaf finishing above GOP at Regionals after splitting with them at conferences, and Bentley upsetting the previously undefeated Bowdoin in the regional final.

I know a concern for a lot of teams every year with this tournament is missing seniors due to graduation. Of our five total seniors, Kenyon will be missing three on Saturday; two are flying up after graduation for Sunday's games.

Initial predictions: Tommy Li makes another sick grab and it's caught on tape but Claremont does not repeat; St John's is in the finals; Rice beats someone else they're not supposed to beat; everyone has a good time!

p.s. Anybody know anything about the women's division?

USAU will be releasing updating rankings tomorrow which will be heavily used for seeding purposes since there aren't too many inter-regional games to go off of in D-IIIs.

So my seeding is rough and based on where I think teams will be in the rankings. But that is pretty difficult right now since regional results will have a huge effect on the rankings and also Reed isn't in the current rankings so I have no idea where to put them.

And that's why he's a professional ultimate disc player.

I haven't seen any NC teams play this year since I don't get up that way very much but here's my crazy prediction:

Rice will win it all. I don't know what exactly clicked for them but I played against them at SC Championships and watched them play both of their games against Harding. The way they played that weekend was phenomenal! They showed elite level fundamentals, athleticism, and intensity all weekend in every game they played. I certainly think a team can beat them but to do this you're going to have to play a perfect or at least near perfect game. Harding beat them in the first game because they came out of the gates playing very, very efficient Ultimate and built a huge lead and then still had to work hard at the end to make sure Rice didn't beat them after Rice scored 5-6 straight on them towards the end.

Of course this prediction only comes true if they show up with the same edge they brought to the SC championships. But if the team that blew everyone away makes it to Appleton then they will be a tough out for anyone and will surprise everyone they play. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how good they were that weekend.

What's going on with the tournament? Sunday night and no updates on Score Reporter or anything I can find. Did it happen?

Never mind, I'm an idiot. Looking forward to seeing results next weekend, though.

Skyd Warm Up videocast for nationals: http://skydmagazine.com/2012/05/warm-up-2012-division-iii-ch ampionships-open/

Sick green screen! But it makes Elliot's hair look kinda funny.

Zack Purdy (who chose to leave out Claremont altogether in the interest of objectivity) has St John's, St Olaf, Kenyon, and Puget Sound in the semis. Skeptical of Bowdoin and Bentley. St John's and Kenyon in the finals. St John's to win it all.

Jimmy Leppert has St John's, Kenyon, Puget Sound, and Claremont in the semis. Kenyon and Claremont in the finals. Kenyon to win it all. I like this guy.

One thing everyone seems to agree on is that this is by far the most competitive field of teams that have ever qualified for this tournament. I would not be surprised to see any combination of any four teams from the top 7-8 in the semis.

Pools C and D, I think, have the most potential for upsets. Pool D will be particularly brutal. Bentley and Bowdoin are sitting on top of pools filled with teams that have a lot of big game experience. I don't think either team holds seed, but at least one will sneak into the quarters.

If St John's gets upset by Rice (unlikely) and St Olaf hold seed (also unlikely, I think) we'd have a Regionals rematch. St John's won on universe the last time these two met. What's the likelihood of St Olaf finishing them off if they get a second chance?

Storyline: GOP tore Kenyon apart in the semis of nationals two years ago, also in Appleton. These teams will be matched up again in the last round of pool play. Should be a great game.

Wow. Rice took it to everyone in this tournament. I guess my crazy prediction is coming true.

After losing twice each at the conference championships and regionals, GOP appears to be rolling through the competition. Wish I could watch the finals...

quick thoughts on finals since I'm drunk:
The crowd seemed to be rooting for the postmen but I felt like Carleton-GOP really did deserve the win. Super upwind/downwind play and Puget Sound would just send like 5 guys deep and punt it while GOP actually worked it.

The Postmen were up 12-11 I believe going upwind. GOP got the downwinder then broke upwind to 13-12 Carleton. Going downwind on game point (cap was on) GOp got a turn (or two maybe) and made a sick toe the line game for the championship.

Congrats to GOP, also Rhys (sp?)is a beast.
