Dear Ultimate Community,
Without Limits, in partnership with Smith College LunaDisc, is proud to present a brand new spring tournament- Virginia is for Layouts. This tournament will be geared toward D-III teams and on-the-cusp teams. This tournament will offer all of the amenities of our elite tournaments, but will be especially focused on providing an opportunity for at-level interregional play. We hope to attract many East Coast teams, as well as teams traveling south for spring break. You can also expect some kind of development opportunity Saturday evening.
Key Tournament Information
Date: March 17-18, 2012
Location: Smith River Sports Complex (Axton, VA)- site of Virginia Fusion
Teams: 24-32 college women's teams, depending upon interest
Fee: $400
Email: contactus (at) withoutlimitsultimate dot com
Last college season, our tournaments served hundreds of teams. Every team in the women's division at D-I Nationals attended at least one of our tournaments. Most attended more than one, and some attended as many as three or four. Nearly every team that played in meaningful games on Sunday of D-I Regionals played at our tournaments. We've run two dozen tournaments, hosted a dozen skills clinics, flown coaches in to guest coach teams, and held sessions on leadership and program development. We've printed and distributed a resources manual. We are reaching the elite teams, and hopefully, we're doing it well.
Over the past five years, the stories of a few teams have stayed on our minds. These teams are unlike the teams that we played on in college and haven't been the focus of most of our work. They don't have many resources. They struggle to get into tournaments. The viability of their team is in question every single year. Then a dedicated leader emerges. A group of sophomores gets hooked and falls in love with the sport. They win a few games. They fundraise to buy uniforms, start hitting the track. A team emerges. What next?
We have helped these teams on a one-off basis. We have donated money to rent fields, bought uniforms, offered hours of advice on the phone, let them into tournaments to bolster their schedules... We did some soul searching after an especially hectic 2011 college season. We've refocused and we're ready to do more.
We're convinced that we will bring you the best tournament experience available in the college women's division. But don't take our word for it. Check out what some of the best players, coaches, and leaders in the women's division have to say about our work:
